I'm not quite sure which I admire the most. Russ for seeing it, Mark going for it, Mark's wife tolerating it, or the CP support to chip in. Good luck!

In all fairness, Troy saw it. I just took the glory from him.

It's fate as far as I'm concerned. At Alexis Park, when Mark & I went into the Parasound room, and they had a Blowtorch hooked up - it was the first time I had ever seen one. Mark proceeded to 'school' me on it's history - and in closing he said 'one day man, that is THE preamp I want'.

Then to see Crump's photos on the wall, and Mark shaking hands over a beer with John Curl? If this isn't meant to be, nothing is.

I was #2 (wee hours of the morning) to view it on Audiogon, but I wasn't going to say anything because I knew that Mark would like to stay married. :D

Drop in the bucket. You probably spend nearly that much in a year on audio related expenses (hell, I do and I don't have anything too special). Just get the year's spending out of the way and listen to music for the next 11 months.

I chose to not pursue it any further. The seller was a friend of Bob's, Jim Meine, VERY nice guy and completely willing to make it happen...BUT, I didn't think it was fair to make arrangements for something that pricey at this time. In all honesty, the more I thought about it, it's simply too much to spend on a single piece.

It would have put both of us in an awkward position, and the purpose of the sale is to pay off debts for the Crump family. They also wouldn't budge on the price for that same reason. I don't buy anything without getting a break honcho.

Thanks to those that offered money, it was a kind gesture and I appreciate it very much. You didn't need any of that back right? ;)

I think the piece is fantastic, and would love to own it, but perhaps another day. I'm almost done with the new purchase, close escrow tomorrow, and I'm not expecting to be unhappy.

No, I'm not telling you what I bought.

    Awesome. That's what counts.

Hope you can snag that pre sometime in the future, though. That's make for an awesome match!

    Mark,

I understand completely... was just curious.

You still need to come by and hear the RTA 12Cs with the Dynaco and Grounded Grid pre. Best synergy of anything I've ever wired together.

Mike - I know, I'm excited to hear that setup. I still have your nuts :D RTA nuts that is, for the other speaker assembly.

I think my buddy is going to buy one of the Transcendent Sound kits to build...the GG Pre.

Just make sure you're healthy and ready to get down ;)

Thanks DJ, I would have payed you back in hugs and some quality alone time.

Joey - It was actually a very positive experience, as I found two more CTC Blowtorch that exist and talked with the owners, met and talked to Jim Meine about Bob Crump...audio...tubes...stupid people....and made DAMN sure they all knew to keep my email address handy.

The Transcendent Grounded Grid Pre is world class IMO. I just did a shoot-out with it against my EE MiniMax which is sporting a NOS pair of Heath/Mullard 12AU7As. The Transcendent was the hands-down winner. It is so transparent, the soundstage is full of air and HF shimmer.

I'm recovering nicely, smoke free, and 20 lbs lighter. Drop by anytime.

I was looking at the site and was wondering if anyone had tried that Balanced Power Supply. How different would it be than my Monster Cable Line conditioner or my Adcom line conditioner? Does it limit amps for amplifiers?

I built the BPS as well and consider it very highly -- on par with my PS Audio UPC-200 in another system. It limits nothing, provides true balanced power rails @60 VAC, ground held to 0, as well as surge interruption and soft start.

Its single outlet may be a turn-off to some, but Bruce supplies a quality power strip that I have had no issues with.
