Yup, it's official! I'm all paid up and registered. Been at it since Sept..Only a coupla set backs...hurricane, cold...Are there any marathoners here? What should I eat the day before? BTW, the marathon is 1/29..It's ING in Miami. Their site is: www.ingmiamimarathon.com. Should be very scenic! Anyhoo, post away if you've got any tips or comments.

high carb with low protein/fat beginning 3days before,
drink plenty of water the night before & morning of,
take in lots of protein afterward when your body's in recovery.
(edit- good luck with the marathon.) -
I was supposed to run the PF Chang RnR Marathon in Phoenix this weekend. I got a stress fracture in left foot back in Sept., so I decided to dropback to the half. Then I got that distance runner's hamstring pull and missed another few weeks of training. So I said screw it, ate the cost of the number, saved the hotel costs, and drove to hang out with steveinaz instead.
All I can say at this point is listen to your body and don't hurt yourself. Could I have ran the half this weekend? Probably. Would able to play soccer and softball and keep trying to run this spring/winter season? I doubt it.
Hopefully I'll be ready for San Diego. Good luck and run smarter, not harder.

thanks for the replies!! i'm running for the average american guy. while i've trained hard, my diet has remained the same. i eat what i want and drink my share of beer. i'll be the guy with the beer gut and skinny legs, trundling across the finish line. at 40, finishing a marathon is one of those things to do before i......i think the night before, i'll have me some steak & eggs. no beer though...prob. stay off the sauce for about a week....yeah right!!!

Way to go sda2mike. You're an inspiration to many of us who one day will attempt to finish a marathon.

You are a much better man than I.

I wish I was in good enough shape to run one. I have the discipline but not the endurance. After about 3 miles I'm killed. Diet is so Important and thats my biggest downfall. I work out alot and I also eat alot.
Good luck to yeah, lots of respect from here.

Make sure you have a friend there for you at the end. Lots of fluids with electrolytes before, during and after the run. Be prepared to have your feet look like total hell and be walking like an elderly man for a while.

I learned early on to bring water w me on any run over 4 miles... 2 weeks ago i ran 18 miles. my feet looked and felt like death! my knees, the outside tendons, were f---ed. so, yes i did walk like an old guy. this past saturday, i ran the same 18 mile route. i put on some knee wraps. real simple things. they worked perfectly. no knee pain at all!! for my feets, i put vaseline all over the little piggies and NOT ONE BLISTER!!!! Thanks for your comments! -

Actually, when I finally decided to train for this thing back in Sept., I was running 2 or 3 times a week. Sometimes only once a week though. No real running program. My usual run was 2.5 to 3 miles, or roughly 30 minutes. Once in a while I would run 5 miles. It would wear me out for a week! They say, if you can run for 30 minutes, you can train for a marathon. -
Great gesture Mark. Good luck in the race sda2mike.Michael

Mike - Please send me that information again. I think I deleted you without thinking from my SPAM filter. I'll have it to your door ASAP. It won't add but 1/32 of an ounce to your body, just mount it on your back, in order to keep you streamlined
Get a picture if you are able, that would be neat for us Polk nerds
