He is going to end up with a wadia or a forsell air bearing or something. Ha ha. Russ knows good audio when he hears it.

I think I am going to bring home Russ' mentioned CDP home for a 2 week demo later this week. Finally got my rig sounding good, its worthy of some demo time finally.

If you can look past the noisey tray, the 1072 is a very good source.

Is the 1072 the next generation of a previous model?

    I believe the 1072 replaces the 1070 which replaced the 961 / 971.

I've been busy this week, but I did have another one of my dealers order me an Arcam CD73 - so I'm going to do a little head to head with the best that $700 can buy in todays market.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Nah, I don't do flavor of the month. ;)

Seriously, you've got one, Jesse has one? I've gotta have some variety when I visit broham. Something to look forward to.

Ever consider the Marantz players? I've not heard them but seem to get really good press.

Yeah, especially the 8260, AC4L has them for something sick like $729 now. That was a $1200 SACD player - had one in the tube rig at PF Maryland.

I just picked up the Arcam also to "downgrade" my source components. It's a very nice sounding player. I am very happy with it. I've always wanted to compare it to the Rotel. Should be a good head to head.

Mark this down as the day I concur with the fat man.

The 1072 is the best thing Rotel has going for it at the moment. This forum loves the Jolida’s, Sheng Ya’s, and Tjoebs. All good sources for the dollar but fall short of the mark of what the 1072 delivers. The transport is as silent as you are going to get for any dollar. Solid build, dark back-round and a well rounded musical player. For this message board, the 1072 should be where the buck ends. In fact, for redbook playback – this is probably the best I have found for those that are not afforded the luxury of an infinite budget.

Now, for you ultra cheap **** on this forum (you know who you are)… there is the Rotel RCD-02. This is essentially the same thing as the 1072. The difference here is that the 1072 has a different chassis, a torroidal transformer, and a few upgraded CAPS in line with the analog output. You will get about 85% of the 1072 performance for a few hundred bucks cheaper.

Stop ‘listening’ to the name, and start listening to the gear for a change.

It's not often I agree with Russ , but this time I gotta back that up. I have played with the 1072, listened to it against higher end players and found this damn thing is worth it's weight in gold. I also plan on getting one myself. Zero put is nicely here.

Sometimes the flavor of the month isn't so bad. Or managers special if you will.

A buddy of mine auditioned the 1072...he did not keep it, found it had less than spectacular imaging and was a little un-involving. Having said that, he said for the money it is an excellent player. Rotel is definitely high-value stuff.

In that price range the Music Hall 25.2 is definitely worth a listen, too.

So, Russ. Have you actually conducted this shoot-out between the 1072 and the Arcam CD73 yet? What're your thoughts so far? You gonna end up with a Wadia or what?

The Arcam is staying, and I might end up buying the Rotel also. 2 reasons for the Arcam over the Rotel (at this point). Asthetics, it visually matches the rig it's in better. Lastly, it's upgradeable, a player to grow with, if you will.

Sound wise, it was too close to call for my ears, in my system.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Hit audiocubes and order a CEC CD-3300; I don't say that because I have one, I say that because I have one and love it. The only thing that will replace mine is a CEC TL-51X. It's a digital turntable--buy one, if it isn't everything I say it is, I swear before the polk brotherhood, I'll buy the son-of-a-**** off you for every cent you paid--shipping included.
