New SVS arrived today

I was very happy to find a BIG box waiting for me when I got home today My new SVS 20-39 PCi was waiting inside .
The reason I went with SVS was because I demo'd a PB12-Plus at a fellow Polkie's (SCompRacer) house and when I felt my pants fluttering during Master and Commander I knew I had to have one (an SVS not a PB12-Plus - outta my price range).
I called the guys at SVS and described my enviroment (17 x 14 x 7.5) and typical listening habits and they said that either the 25-31 PCi or 20-39 PCi would get the job done. Now that I've used it I know that I definately could've gone with the little guy but I'd rather "have and not need" than "need and not have".
I used the Avia DVD to calibrate it and I think this made setting it up really easy - kinda fun too. When the low frequency sweeps were playing the cat started freaking out. I don't think this is funny but I haven't seen him since I finished.
Its different from my little Yamaha YST-SW45 mainly because I don't "hear" as much bass. Now I "feel" it. I used the Avia DVD to see how low the Yamaha went and it got down to 34Hz (the manual says 30Hz -10db). The SVS goes much lower than the that (duh!).
If you are thinking about buying a new sub I doubt that you'll find anything better for anywhere near the same amount. CS is excellent and a 45 day trial period made this a no-brainer for me. I did consider Outlaw's LFM-1 but with shipping the 20-39 was still about $50 less.

I used to have the same exact sub.. i was quite pleased with it.. i miss it actually. the round subs are light weight to move around the room.. box subs are a lot more work to move.
tomorrow I hope to have some subwoofer news of my own.
Oh yeah. congrats on your new sub.. i'm sure you'll love it.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

You should watch the first 15-20 minutes of WOTW with the old sub...Then repeat with the SVS. Not only is it a different movie, you'll be in a different dimension.
Enjoy

Congrats on the PCi! I remember I had that sub a few years ago... great sub for the money!

Joey - I almost bought yours but at that time I couldn't persuade my wife. After I ordered mine she asked me if I bought the one with the three holes in the top and I said "I could've but you didn't want me to!"
Ron - way ahead of you on that one as I've heard it suggested elsewhere
db - that was the main reason we went with the cylinder. Light and easy for me to move by myself. I was amazed that I was able to unpack it and set it up without any help.
SC - Ya, it was kinda funny in retrospect I guess I don't have to worry about him jumping or laying on top of it
Anywho, when she got home last night the first thing she saw was the box it came in. "Why's the box so big?" I pointed to the sub in the opposite corner and her jaw hit the floor. She didn't realize it was going to be that tall. I told her the dimensions before I ordered it but I guess, like most people that order an SVS, she just didn't get the proportions until it was right there.
She asked to hear it so I loaded the "Darla" scene from "Finding Nemo" - once again her jaw dropped open followed immediately by a huge grin followed by laughter. "The whole floor is shaking!" She was downright giddy.
I'm not running it very loud either - 1/3 gain with the x-over at 80Hz (my receiver doesn't have crossover points). Like I said, I used the Avia DVD and just matched the output of all the other speakers. It blended in perfectly unlike my old Yamaha. The Yamaha was good but you could usually pick out where it was in the room (I was running it too hot though). When I matched the Yamaha with Avia all the bass pretty much disappeared. With the new kid I can't tell where the bass is coming from anymore. It's everywhere and its louder and deeper.Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Congrats on the new sub!!! I'm glad you love it, thanks for that news.. Starting to get the LFM dialed in, -still auditioning it but in the scene where (1)(LOTR II) where Gandolf is fighting the BuLOCK, when the monster hit the side it bumped be around in my couch like I hit a pothole in an old pick-up truck, "quite fun".. Now the sad new is SVS was at CES this weekend when I called them. They offered me at PC-Ultra at 20% off plus no shipping if I could be there in an hour.. But my work had me an hour away + anyway.. My wife had the cell locked up in the car (15 min. away), and my co-worker that was off that day and in town had his cell and pager at his house.. Talk about frustrating! Is anyone crying yet? I would have never had to upgrade again.. Ever!
Enjoy your toy and keep us posted on how you're liking it..

Wasn't at the show.. I moved from Livermore Ca., just a few months ago to Vegas for work.. I called SVS' office numer but call was forwarded to a the guys at CES, didn't know they were there or still there at least.. Should of got tix.. If I wasn't new to the area I would of probably had friends to help pick this up.. But maybe if I played that at home I may had to get divorced "who knows" things work out for a reason sometimes.. They (SVS) had some great advice even for setting up my Outlaw LFM-1.. That was cool!

Willow & Sky - Don't know what you want to see because "if you seen one you seen 'em all" I would not recommend their caps - they are pretty flimsy. The t-shirts, on the other hand, are excellent. The "little guy" is actually stronger than the 20-39PCi above 23 Hz.
With that said, I think the 20-39 is the best compromise of the three sizes between slam and extension - good choice."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

If you bought a subwoofer from the SVS Alexis Park suite, they shipped it from Vegas.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Peersol,
You need to stand or have your wife stand beside the sub for perspective. Thanks for sharing your experiences.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

GAH!!!
I wouldve LOVED to have sold it to you... my final price for the thng was pretty darn good too since I felt bad for the high school kid who was buying it from me (and it was in the spirit of Christmas).. I gave it away for $550 with shipping. Ayiyiyi... you should've done a "secret" deal with me... I wouldnt have told your wife!

I think they were trying to sell from the floor locally and I don't think they arranged shipping from the suite. If anyone got one, I'm sure it was a great deal.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this picture.
I got the WAF on the sub because of it.
I showed her it due to the comedic "wife whack" quote and she commented how nice that speaker looked. I quickly replied that this may be the next upgrade to the home theater system and she said "okay." Now the next obstacle is price. She may not understand that this is not a $50 item.
