Man Let me tell you

I haven't played for 13 years. On and off here and there but I'm getting back fully into it. I have been shopping around and I think I found my setup.

Funny really it's the same setup I had years ago. A Fender Twin Reverb 65 amp and a American Stratocaster. This time I'm switching it up a bit with getting a Strat with a double humbucker in the Bridge position.I played 3 different Strats today and found intresting things about the new line ups.
This guitar http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0117100706 I played and loved with the exception of having a double humbucker in the neck position. I felt it had to much warmth for that position and didn't allow the strat to sound like a strat. I also played on of these http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0111700320. this one gave the best of both worlds. Man this thing was well balanced and had tone that I was looking for. I'm gonna buy it.

Whats funny is I wanted this maple body, birds eye maple neck and fret board http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0101420 (left hand verson) I thought it was the best looking guitar in the shop.......until I played it. it really sounded like a Telocaster instead of a strat. It was forward and bright. The salesman told me it was the birds eye maple neck making the higher tone. I liked the way it looked but not the way it sounded. I always wanted a maple neck guitar as I love the way it looks, but now that I really listened and played one,I'm back to rosewood fret boards. Rosewood fret boards seem to be more forgiving. It sound more natural then forward. I like that better.

So what do you guys play and why?

Almost bought a Takamine. Played a friends guitar first for three weeks and quit. I started playing some songs (such as Elvis' Can't Stop Loving You) by ear, but I just couldn't seem to make my left hand make all those chords.

used to play in a band even but like you took time off... more like twenty years for me but just bought an alvarez acoustic and a cheap es335 copy. i picked based on descent quality but cheap so i didnt have a lot in it if i find i have no time. i think the trick is to play. not what you play.

Haven't played for about 20 years but just picked up this over the holidays. It's amazing how fast it comes back to you.

I've been playing off and on for about 10 years, I don't however consider myself a musician but I really enjoy playing. At this moment I haven't played much in the last 6 or 7 months so I guess I better start practicing! My main axe is a Gibson ES 335. I also have a nice Am Std. Strat that I like. I used to play these through a Fender Blues Deville 410 amp until recently selling it so I have been playing a small all tube Crate Vintage Club amp that has about 10 or 15 watts! I'd like to buy a new amp but I'm not sure what I would like to get..a Bassman reissue is a real nice amp but I don't know yet. Maybe If I get a new amp I'll start playing more!

Been hammerin on a six-string for over 35 years. Still have my orginal Epiphone Cresent I got when I was 16 and she can still play like crazy. Have a Ibanez Perfomance A/E. I picked up the Fender Acoustical Amp last year, like that has a real nice sound.

I have an Ibanez GSA20 (I think that's the model, at my brother's house) that I've been playing for a few years now. I have a nice little 10" Crate amp with DSP that surprises the **** out of my buddies every time they play it (15+ years guitar each). I kick myself every time I see them guys jamming for I never really got into playing it. :mad:

I haven't played professionally in 20+ years, but play at least an hour a day for mental excercise and teaching the kids. Daily players are guitars I built: Strat with Van Zandt single-coil blues pups, and Tele with Fralin single-coil Blues Specials - both alder bodied with maple necks ( C for the Strat and V for the Tele) and jumbo frets. IMO, the tone of a solid body electric is 90% in the body. I can take a routed blank, hold it to my ear, rap it a few times and pick the keepers.

I've owned a Marshall Plexi for years, but now play through a Fender Cyber-Twin. With this amp, I get tons of flexibility without the need for a boxcar load of effects pedals.

There are 22 guitars (electric, acoustic, and lap steel) in my investment collection - mostly Fender, a few Gibson, Gretsch, Martin, and Rics. Most valuable currently is a '54 Strat, rarest is a Diamond Dealer 40th Anniversary Strat (1 of 64 on the planet) which is pictured below. Also pictured is a rarity I'll let you guitar buffs take a stab at. It wasn't high end, but is very high tone, and is becoming scarce as hen's teeth. The third pic is the 335 I bought new in '71 and used for jazz gigs back in the day.

Great hobby! Glad to see other pickers in the mix.

I have played threw the Fender cyber twin se and found it to be very cool. It had alot of effects and they all sounded good. But it only has a tube preamp, not really sure if it matters that much but I still feel the Fender Twin reverb is a better clean sounding amp. But on the down side like you said an array of effects pedals has to be added.

I have owned a gutair for a little over 5 years, does that count as playing? I have a steel gray Parker P-40 with a Spider II amp (2 x 10). I also have guitar port which is really nice (currently it is only a volume control for my PC sound rig). I love to play, but hate to pratice so I rarely take it out but have been meaning to get some serious time in. I probably should start lessons, but I never practice so I feel bad when I show up for a lesson and haven't touched the guitar since my last lesson.

The Twin Reverb is a solid amp. I haven't played the new re-issues, but have played through many originals over the years. Yeah, the Cyber-Twin would probably sound amazing as a tube power stage amp, but I doubt they could pull it off with all the modeling circuitry involved.

Have you ever played through a Dr. Z? For all tube circuitry they're hard to beat and are tone monsters. Hand-built in Ohio, point to point wiring.

Hints: it was one of the last of the American made instruments by this company. The production facility suffered a total loss to fire, and all production was ultimately moved to Japan. This model shares a name with another instrument line by the same company.

I decided a few years ago I really wanted to play one. 15 years ago I had a POS one and attributed my lack of talent as a lack of equipment quality so this time I got a nice guitar and amp, a PC program to learn from and a few books. My current one is the black one. The other one was just an investment. It was a rare lottery guitar later sold at a profit. I think mine has been out of the case maybe 10 times. I have no talent in that area but it sure looks cool sitting there...

The amp and cab is awesome. I have a Marshall Valvestate AVT 275 combo amp as well as a Marshall amp head that I haven't bought a cab for yet (don't need it).

I've got about 15 years worth of bass on me. I've been cutting back, so now I'm down to an acoustic, fender p-bass, and 2 kramer aluminum necks (pre-gibson pointy guitar big hair metal era) and a 63 fender Music Master II. I think my nicest guitar that i've owned has to be the '66 Gibson EB-2D, but I needed cash and it wasn't in collectible shape. All those gibson basses had weak necks, so I unloaded it before I broke it. I have to say that those kramers are my favorites. You could bludgeon someone to death with one and not only would it be perfectly fine, it'd still be in tune. Got one fretless, one fretted.

Damn Chuck! You never even mentioned that you played!!

The TV yellow Strat looks like a '68 reissue. Is it a 3 or 4 bolt neck? With the large headstock (CBS era) I'm guessing 3. If you don't know the story behind the color, ask me sometime.

The T-Bird is full scale and, yes, the mystery guitar is a Gretsch.

Started with a mexican strat and then got a Ibanez RG series which I love. Crate half stack and a acoustic-electric as well. I wish I played every day like I used to!

I've been playing for about off and on for about 3 years. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Classic (with gold top, in my guitar teachers memory) and a Simon & Patrick acoustic. I absolutely love the acoustic. It was hand made in Quebec and is solid wood and everything, and it was only $300! It sounds just as good as the entry level Martins!

I CAN'T play, I can only play with...

The strat was given away in the Dakota lottery and the winner didn't want it. On the back it had a special neck plate that stated what it was. I had illusions of playing but it just wasn't meant to be. I tried a keyboard later and had better luck but I'm more of a single note person. Trumpet.
