website for keeping track of music

It seems like I've seen some people on here using a website that keeps track of your music inventory, but I don't remember anything about it. Isn't there a website where you can enter all the albums you own and keep track of what you have? And, can you do cassettes and records as well as CDs?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Why would anyone need a website to keep track of what music one owns???Political Correctness'.........defined

I can't seem to find any websites, even though I'm fairly sure I've seen some CP members using one, so what software would one recommend for this?George Grand wrote: »

I remember what you're talking about. It had the look of a customized d-base application.
D-base is probably the best application to use. Excel will work as well, but navigating the inputs is a bit more cumbersome.More later,

Most users used it to make their collection visible to others. But when your collection reaches the thousand's, and/ or you reach a certain age, it can become a touch harder to keep track of.More later,

http://www.collectorz.com/ for music CDs.
You can buy the software for $40. Just put your CD into the disc drive and the program catalogs all the information including covers."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Ah, the first reason I can understand....somewhat, but the last two still won't tell you where a certain disc/lp/cassette is located in your house, eh?Political Correctness'.........defined

I keep track of what music I have by Microsoft Word...
I do it to make sure I havnt lost anything, or so no one has stolen any of my stuff.
I also do it because I have around 300 disc on my computer and it is much easier to look on a list if someone wants to know if I have a artist/cd...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I end up buying music I already have, especially LP's. A list would go a long way. I set up an excel spreadsheet with different sections for DVD's LP's and CD's etc and got a PDA so I can carry it with me. The data entry has not been done yet. What a time consuming mess that will be. I just can't keep track of 2000 LP titles, 1000 CD's, DVD's, SACD's, DVDA's etc. Sure, I remember my favorites but on some buying spree's I can never remember which ones I bought and which ones I put off. Of course with LP's there are ones I have which are mint but also there are ones that if I found one in better condition I would get it.

I'm mainly interested in this so I can have a list of our records for Dad, though I think it'd be cool to have a list of all my CDs and cassettes, too. I must admit that I don't think I'd use it much. Just to be able to make my 'collection' visible and see how many I have.
I think I'm just going to use Excel. That is, assuming I get Office sometime soon.George Grand wrote: »

The Collectorz.com software is actually great for both movies and music. I have over 3000 CDs and 550 movies, and it's great for when we have people over, as I don't have to drag out all of my cases and crap...just let them thumb through my 'book'.
The software is worth the cost, but I'd be willing to send someone a 'copy' if you'd like to test it out before plunking down the change... -

I built an inventory program for both my music and my houshold inventory years ago in Microsoft Access. The household one was easy to update and I kept a copy in the safety deposit box for insurance purposes. Never used the one for music much, but it was fun to build. If anyone has Access it is very easy to build. The nice thing is that you can query the database for any song, year, artist or what what ever you feel like tracking.Michael

You're right about that. I keep all my CD's in their cases, sealed in a **** bag, never touch anything but the edge of the disc and never put them in one of those CD cases like you do. All the cases and discs look brand new. That's how collector takes care of his collection.
My memory is fine, I remember what's important to ME!Political Correctness'.........defined

I certainly know your love for condition of a product. The CD's that are in said cases are ones from 5-20 years ago, and they all spin just fine. I guess they store them ok huh?
I don't utilize those cases anymore, but that's because I have space now. It's all about convenience, and when those "stored" CD's give up the ghost, I'll simply buy new ones.
When I think collector, I think in the thousands of titles. I know that many levels of "collections" exist, but I'm not in the group that calls those "collectors".CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? I was fairly impressed with the condition of F1's collection and his handling of it. There is another type of collection which has more to do with quantity. I'm in the middle to low portion of that. Although many are new looking, I also have a lot of used looking CD's. I also have some copies. A friend of mine has several thousand discs. Now that is what I call a collector. The only thing that bugs me about it is every single disc he has has his name on it. Not something I would do. To each his own I guess. Actually, with LP's I've found that have an original name written on the cover adds a degree of mystery to it.

You can use cd-tracker.com to inventory your CDs. Here's my outdated inventory. On the other hand, I am currently building a simple blog/webpage using Yahoo 360. You can even include photos....here's mine how looks like.
However, I plan on using Micrsoft Excel to inventory my music collection and save it on both my computer's HD and on a flash drive. I started it already but it's very tedious work. -
Thanks! I'll play around with that for a while.George Grand wrote: »
