but this happy holidays stuff pisses me off. When people say something like that I ask them if they mean merry christmas and if so why didn't they say so.

I'm 47 years old. My whole entire life "Happy Holidays" seemed to mean Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Years, hence the "Holiday Season". :D

I'd like to know who these people are that are offended by Christmas & the use of the word and why don't they make themselves known. No one seems to want to take credit for it.

The Catholic Church doesn't seem to mind as I heard on the radio this morning about a school project in a local Catholic school where the students were instructed to make "Christmas" cards for a nursing home. However, they could not use the word Christmas anywhere on the card. WTF

Big businesses (including my employer) are being told by "consultants" who run diversity workshops to the corporate execs that Christmas is offensive to people, therefore you see all these diferent terms today in advertising...

I've seen a few interviews on tv with these consultants and when asked to give examples or cite any kind of research, they just give an example of how a person was reported to be offended by the term so we should ban it...

Anyway, here's a little piece I wrote in response to last year's Christmas news regarding this exact issue:

All the current "pseudo-issues" with the Christmas holiday have sparked many Christians and others to feel they need to "defend" this holiday. I use the term pseudo-issues because that is what they are: plain garbage legislated in the facade of fairness to all. The current hypersensitivity levels demonstrated in schools banning Christmas songs and trees, department stores refusing to wish people "Merry Christmas", and other random acts of christophobia have offended the many people who celebrate this holiday. So what this comes down to is this: in the attempt to not "offend" the few, they have offended the many and that is assuming that the people who live in America and don't celebrate Christmas are actually offended! A little weird isn't it? Borderline idiotic and illogical may be the correct labels.

It is counterproductive to discriminate in the name of diversity; Allowing some religious symbols but not others is just that, discrimination. Diversity by definition is the inclusion of all, not the exclusion of some. Those who feel offended by this season are themselves not celebrating the diversity they claim to be preaching.

In the end, there is nothing wrong with Christmas, that's it, nothing. Even those who don't celebrate it can still enjoy the free time to spend with family and friends. And what is wrong with that?

The media reports several things about people not wanting to offend. A few I've heard were some schools in Ohio calling their Christmas party a Krissmas party so as not to offend. Last year there was a big thing somewhere that a school system didn't allow the colors red and green during the "Holiday Season" because it somewhat pointed towards Christmas and could be considered offensive. It came up because some kids were sent home for wearing the offensive colors. They also switched from red and green plates to white ones. I don't have kids but people I know who do say the schools do not permit any talk of Christmas. At the same time they have classes with content of other countries religious beliefs and practices. We are **** ourselves here.

I have never heard this stated but it is a logical progression. What do you bet we next hear that our troups should not be celebrating Christmas in the middle east for fear of offending the terrorists of the region...

They can call it whatthey want...to me and my wife it will always be Christmas. We don't practice any form of thought or particular way of life. If the word Google can be in the dictionary why can't Christmas be a unviseral word for the December Holiday with out offending anyone.

What is known is that Christian leaders in 336 A.D. set the date to December 25 in an attempt to eclipse a popular pagan holiday in Rome (Saturnalia) that celebrated the winter solstice.

Why is there a small evergreen tree in your living room?

This is a German tradition, started as early as 700 A.D. In the 1800s the tradition of a Christmas tree was widespread in Germany, then moved to England and then to America through Pennsylvanian German immigrants.

    Im offended.

In my "horrible horrible, bad teachers, horrible corrupted minded students" public school...

We have a moment of silence every day as school starts. We say the pledge with the word God in it. We say prayer before Football games. We have a very respected group of people with low violence, little to no drug use, and its overall a fine group of kids that go to my school.

We can discuss god, christmas, easter WHATEVER we want. No one is going to stop us. We even have a Bible Class. We also pray before lunch, have CYC meetings before school and "meeting at the pole" for praise and worship.

The rules of a Public school are SIMPLE, a TEACHER or a State Employee at the school can NOT lead any students into prayer. A teacher/etc can not push their beleifs on another student. They can only discuss and show the facts.

Public School is NOT that bad. Dangit. *So annoying*

    Im now... unoffended.

The state has NO authority over what we as students can discuss, we are NOT on their pay roll. This is NOT China. We can talk about anything we want as long as it dosnt lead to violence or something...

The Teachers, etc are the ones restricted. As for wearing Christmas colors.. if its part of the dress code rules... well... there ya go.
