If you're unhappy with the way Tweeter operates, find another dealer that will give you your discount. All my Polks were purchased much lower than retail at an authorized dealer. The sales guy could have been BS'ing you. When they lower the price, their commission suffers. I've never been to an audio shop that won't give discounts.

Although I am a new blade of grass in this evolving and productive garden, your attitude smells of (1) a previous banished troll, (2) a previous member tossing a brown salad, or (3) a troll from another forum or manufacturer.

What has your experience been with asking for a discount buying gasoline or consumer products not on sale?

i think prifit margins are huge in ht. adcom amp retails for 1500 their minum sell price is 900 that is a 600 markup and almost 50% profit. i will not buy unless i get at least 15% disc and i uslay shoot for a 20% . i have a few technices i use to get it but some stores will not offer any disc so i dont go theree.

I corrected that myself in the thread. I *should* have said there are 20 other speaker manufacturers to choose from. I have no idea how many would discount. I'll bet that most would with the exception of Polk, Bose and Nackamici. Two of those three have bad sounding speakers.

Gasoline pricing, diaper pricing and hot dog pricing are entirely different markets from CONSUMER HOME ELECTRONICS. A gasoline dealership may actually have only pennies of markup on the gas itself and they sell other items with bigger margin. If I was to buy a 1.50 soda I would not ask for a discount because there is very little profit in the pice (and they even will discount in the form of the leave-a-penny-take-a-penny area.) But I do ask for discounts on things like cars, HDTVs, Apple computers, PC computers, collectable records, major Appliances, and camera equipment.

I think that Polk LSi15s speakers probably have a dealer cost of $1250 dollars or much more likely less depending on volume. The dealer charges $1599,. Thats about a 25% margin. I do think the dealer should be allowed to haggle with me based on that margin. MAP is fine with me, msRp is fine, but MRP *is*(IMHO) anti-consumer. Not anti-consumer is a way that they are trying to SCREW me, but it moves all power in the negotiation to the dealer. My options are buy or not buy.

On my car I negotiated a 3 thousand dollar discount. I got $100 off a $600 dollar dishwasher. I got $300 off my Apple computer. I got $200 off my Canon camera. I got $100 dollars off my Sony TV. I got $100 off my mountain bike. And all those dealers are still in business and have me as a loyal customer.

I did buy because Polk occasionally tells dealers "Go ahead a take 10% off our line. It's okay on these magic days" - and my dealer said there is one of those days coming up within the next 60 days where his price guarantee will protect me.

I again find it interesting that my character is being attacked when I am asking about price-controls (nay, nearly price fixing) on stereo equipment.

I am a new member who just bought Polk speakers. Not a troll. Not a Brooklyn grey market dealer.

A few people have got my point:
I feel that if a dealer feels they can offer a small discount on home electronics that they should be allowed to do so. I have not advocated deep discounts. I have not claimed a fourteenth amendment right to cheap stereo equipment.

And if F1nut is an actual Polk employee I hope his supervisors at least check this board to see how he represents the company.

Once again you failed to comprehend what I said. To clarify, I didn't say "I win", I said "you lose." There is a difference.

Another, make that the biggest, difference between you and everyone else here that I'm aware of is that no one but YOU has come on here whining about not getting a discount. The simple fact that you have failed to grasp the concept that you're not always going to get a discount on big ticket items tells me that you have a lot of growing up to do.

i agree, there comes a time when one eventually has to "bite the bullet" and pay retail. i've done it, though it turns my stomach doing so.
