Slightly Disappointed

I was just drooling over some of Polk's speakers that I can't afford when I ran across the page for their MMC6500 component set. Right under the picture and titling the description is the sentence "If it's too loud, you're too old."

Now, on the one hand I can look at that sentence and think, "Yeah, that's kinda cool." I mean, I can see where they're coming from and the market they're trying to reach. However, I think it way too strongly supports today's attitude that old folks are just in the way and using up our air. It seems today that nobody has any kind of respect for authority whether it be the government, reiligious institutions, or other people in positions of authority.

As younger folks trying to make it through the world alive (and hopefully happily), the elderly can offer so much valuable advice and wisdom - the stuff that's only gained with time. They should be honored for making it through most, and arguably the roughest part, of life. They should be granted the priveleges, shown the respect; we should be the ones to step aside and let them go through. We should be the ones trying to accomodate them, not the other way around.

Today's attitude says they just take up space and should get out of our way; that is, if they persist in sticking around. To me, that statement "If it's too loud, you're too old" is just dripping with that same attitude.

To be honest, I'm disappointed in Polk for taking a part in that.

Oh and just for the record for you young whipersnappers out there, that was Gene Simmons of Kiss that said that. So its automatically cool and worthy of Polk using it.

KISS? Hmm...the only thing I know about that is...the Keep It Simple Stupid series of books.

    Having heard Kiss's songs...

Not only do I not care to know who is a part of that band... I also don't care to listen to them (ever)...

Possibly one of the worst bands I've ever heard.

As for what AB is talking about above... get over it. Really...

I'll get over it as soon as it's better; and it'll never get better if we all just 'get over it'.

I'm also quite appalled that no one else thinks this is a problem with today's society.

    *sigh*

The problem with your mini rant is your preaching to the choir. No other group of people you will talk to even comprehend why you are mad probally.

This group of people has sat by and watched Hi-Fi sound just completely drain for about all its worth... some are more willing to admit it than others. But what your complaining about is just about whats wrong. There is nothing you can do when 95% of the market has that mind set, loud is better, small speakers are better, small subs with 40hz drop offs are better... receivers are better... cheaper is better... HTIB is better...

Its all one in the same.

I'm not concerned about this in relation to hi-fi audio. From my stand-point, it's doing just fine.

I'm concerned with society in general.

I could give a rat's **** whether he knows who Gene Simmons is or not...or what Kiss is for that matter....

What worries me is that his generation is SOOOOOOO PC that the ad bothers him! There used to be a time that you could poke fun without worrying that it somehow offends someone. Hell.....EVERYTHING offends SOMEONE! Hey, I AM old and it doesn't bother me.

To borrow a line from a well known movie (Network) we need to stand up and yell "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this PC **** anymore!"
