I'd like to punch Kanye square in the mouth. What a joke. Bush hates black people, yeah, that's it - thought we might be able to sneak that one by, oops!!!

One thing I was thinking about yesterday, what if the city itself had been prepared. Why push so many people into the superdome, with no plan after that? It would have been a little different, if the superdome had, say 10, 5,000 gallon potable water 'capacitors'. In line with it's current supply, so it's constantly being refreshed (under normal operating conditions). Maybe even have the tanks up towards the top of the building - so they could also have the water pressure, without power.

It's one of those things, I guess no one thought it would be THAT bad. Hindsight, that whole thing, right? Anyway, now is not the time to play the blame game, now is the time to find a solution for, and help those in need. Anyone wasting a lot of time debating 'who did or didn't do what', should be beaten about the head with a sockfull of pennies.

Quit typing, and GO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Look, Barney, I said I was done...but if you take a look at the timeline of the situation and realize that the President declared the state of Louisiana an emergency situation BEFORE the storm hit, you would see that there should have been a more swift federal response to the situation. IF NO local gov't had things under control, they probably wouldn't have asked for federal aid so quickly and tried to provide their own help...but I feel that they realized that this situation bigger than they could have handled, and asked for help...cop out or not, they went seeking for aid and it was not delivered in what I feel was a timely manner.

What you also need to realize is that what you may call BS is someone's real issue...

Russman-all good points...but it's fun to argue...and Barney and I are getting two points of view out there...which while it may seem that tension is high, we are both just stating what we think is right.

Also, the family that was staying with me from Buloxi MS (formerly stated NO, sorry, my wife told me they were from NO), rented a house today and both have interviews for jobs. They are going to call Denton home now.

Everybody is saying "this should have been done" "they should have been faster" etc..etc..

Bottom line...This was a disaster of epic perportions for this county. While there have been years of what speculation about what was POSSIBLE....NO ONE (individuals, local, state, federal) really believed it WOULD happen as was clearly indicated by their actions. This isn't a perfect world and disasters are a part of it. Many have come to believe that SOMEONE can take care of everything. That someone is people just like you and me trying to do the best they can and sometimes it JUST ISN"T GOOD ENOUGH.

A good doctor friend of mine (who sadly passed away last year) told me something that has stuck with me for many years. He was an OBGYN and former military doctor. He decided to quit delivering babies. I asked why expecting the standard liability/insurance problems. His answer sort of supprised me. He said "I've delivered hundreds of babies. I've been lucky in that I have made mistakes and everything worked out and the babies lived. But there have been times where I did everything perfect and the baby died. Babies just die sometimes. I do my best and it is not good enough. If I keep doing this long enough, I WILL make a mistake that will cause a baby to die. It's time to stop".

This tragedy has REALLY worn on me at many levels. I grieve for the victims and hurt for them. I could have been me. It brings to reality that our way of life and life itself is very fragile and can end at the drop of a hat. I worry about the future for my kids and our society and our way of life. It just reinforces in a major way that there is so much I have no control over.

I have posted several times on this subject throughout the forum. It saddens me to see how quickly every one is to blame everyone else. At this point in time I REALLY DON"T CARE about blame. There will be a little piece for everyone. Let's take care of those in need, take care of our country and take care of those we love. I am proud of every one who has stepped up to help. I belive MOST everyone has tried to do what they thought was the right thing. That includes the local leaders to the national leaders.

I am done with anymore useless posting here on this topic. Thousands are trying to help. It will probably not be enough. I have done some to help. It isn't enough. I will try to do more.

Heartfelt post Shack...and this all stems from each of us caring...we wouldn't even be discussing this stuff if we didn't care.

FYI-I have a police officer friend who is working at Reunion Arena in Dallas. He says that the people staying there are doing quite well (beside the fact that they don't have a home of thier own). They all have new clothes, food and water are not an issue, they have food being prepared around the clock, and have shelter. All of this comes from donations in the DFW area...some of this could be from the money that was given to Russman. Just wanted you to know.

It seems the help is really getting organized, debit cards for emergency cash, homes opening up for the survivors, schooling for the children. Glad to see Americans helping like always.

I am going to look at opening my home for a family to relocate to Ga.

I totally agree. Our President ran out of cheetos one day, threw a dart at a globe, it landed on Iraq and BAM!! we were there. Nothing led up to that whatsoever. No preparation involved. B E A YOOTIFUL!!

Whatever you guys are smoking, I want a hit. The President spent MONTHS at the UN before he went into Iraq. Get a clue! Also, NO PRESIDENT has the power to bring the military into a US city. It must FIRST be requested by the Governer of the state, and LA Gov. waited to do it.

    Great post shack....

I agree that it was a disaster of epic proportions and that regardless, there was going to be suffering. My point is, and has been, you've got a lot of people running around wanting to point fingers at who did or didn't do what.

My point, again, is that we are ALL doing what we can to help. Here in Charleston, I put 10 of my kids and 40 tons of equipment on a C17 Wednesday PM to the storm area and we have been going around the clock ever since. This wasn't a case of the federal governement not caring or not wanting to respond. That is utter tripe and it offends me.

It also offends me that some of this stuff COULD have been avoided if some people had simply followed the plans that they had. The superdome and the convention center were a disgrace. First, storm shelters should have been identified a couple days before the storm made landfall. There should have been food and water and toilets at those locations prior to landfall. Public transportation should have been used to help those evacuate that could not do so on thier own. IMO, this is common sense stuff that all should have been done before and could have saved a few lives. What really makes my blood boil is that we have local politicians calling for heads to roll yet THIER inaction led to human suffering that could have been mitigated.

I'm further incensed by the fact that there are those, like Kayne, that want to use this as an avenue to propogate race baiting.

Good One! :D;) Also, I heard on Fox over the weekend that there is a governing board in LA that oversees the levees. The report said that this "levee board" had multiplied millions of dollars to spend on improvments but instead spent the money on a corporate jet, expensive "business" trips and other things of that nature. If thats true, let the ****-kicking begin!!!!!
