The worst part of this is that he did it during a CHARITY drive. I can't even imagine how many people turned the TV off or didn't donate just because of this jackass.

It was almost FUNNY when Mike Myers said a whole thoughtful little speech and this ignoramus comes back with "George Bush doesn't care about black people." You're real intelligent, moron.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

And to think I used to have respect for this guy. He made it to where he is without being a "gangsta", thug, drug dealer, etc. He was told by many that he wouldn't make it in the biz simply because he wasn't any of the above. He broke through that sterotype and became a sucessful and talented artist. And then he goes and pulls something like this. My respect for him just went out the window. Ingorance is all it is. Plain and simple.

His comments were certainly inappropriate using that particular media vehicle. It was a charity event; he certainly has a right to voice his opinion but that venue was not the place. It amazes me how inappropiate people can be. It would have been like slandering Princess Diana at her funeral. The guy is an idiot if he doesn't realize the ends didn't justify the means for this situation.

Well, its in nature to "seek out" ones own, so to speak. Its hard to ever have "world peace" or "race relations" because we always seek out the differences. A persons skin color is at times the foremost difference. Clothes, music, culture aside, people are different. No one wants to be exactly the same as anyone else, at least in theory. Thats why we are here in America, we want to do things our way. "To hell with the British and theyre rule" When the British "felt" that the colonists may break away from the Empire, they decided to tax the poo out of them. This did not sit well with the Colonists. As long as there is passion and emotion, there cant be any long standing peace, because these feelings are unpredictable and have a strong effect on rational thinking. To take on the british army at that time was suicide, but we did it, and beat them. I have no idea where this is supposed to end up, but i think im trying to say that its prettymuch a fact of life that discrimination, for lack of a better word, is part of being human.

Well I agree he it was not right to vent on national television but there are pictures taken of a white person and a black person, looks to be the same area, both are carrying food. The BIG difference is that the description states that the black person is looting while the white person is "looking for food."

This comes from The Associated Press, not the president. So why he was lashing out at Bush was complete BS.

1.This guy certainly picked the wrong place to air his grievance.
    2. He picked the wrong person to blame (should have been the media).
    3. However, I have a friend in Canada who saw this same report & asked me why the white family was said to be looking for food & Why the black family was looting when both had food?

The only answer I could give is this country still has a major problem with racism.

Were black people looting? Yes. Were white people looting? Yes. But if both are looting food & water, then both are simply trying to survive. If both have TV's ect. then both are looters!

You can't have 2 different answers to the same evidence in both cases. And the only difference is color. If you do? then I would say you have a prejudice problem.

I will agree that the venue was not right for his statements, but his statements do have some accuracy. The President and the federal government failed miserable in this state of emergency. Plus, certain facets of the media have been found to place 'racist' opinions in their reports. Was it the best place to state these issues...probably not...but his freedom of speech brought to light some issues on a national level. Jackass...yes...dumbass...not really, his views were heard throughout this country.

The pictures and captions were from 2 different press's. one from the AP and the other from another news ... so if it had been the same news team covering it i could see racism... But 2 different news companies did the pictures... They talked about this this morning on the radio morning show i listen to...

also its nothing new that the news will be biased one way or the other and this country still has racist.. He didn't bring anything to light,

IMO, the different semantics were justified. The photographs were taken by two different photographers. Seperately, according to the photographers:
The black person in the pic was seen getting the goods out of a store. The white person was seen getting the goods floating in water, not in a store.

Are we really going to nitpick the manner in which people are trying to get food in order to survive? Loot it, pick it out of a floating lake, bake it, whatever..............food is an ABSOLUTE necessity, and I won't hold ANYone in disregard for trying to survive.

Both pictures show people in chest deep water with food supplies. No store in sight. How do they know one was looted from a store & one was found floating where ever?

Unless I see pics of both coming out of a store with non edibles, this is clearly a case of trying to stay alive for both sets of people.

This is a clear case of racism reporting as far as I'm concerned!

Its 2 different people reporting it, So at best one of them "may" be racist.. I'm sure they were there longer then for one snapshot... maybe they seen where the people were "before " the pictures at hand... would we be having this conversation if the captions were reversed? I think not! and I'm not racist or have any real conclusions but lets stop the its racismn if we accuse a black person of looting..

What Kanye did was voice his opinion, and it is cool to state your opinion, but he just did it at the wrong time. He also blamed the wrong person (Bush) for the slow reaction to aiding the people of N.O. Like someone mentioned in another thread, now is not the time for playing the "blame game", or talking down on everyone you think that doesn't care. He didn't make the government go in and save the white people only, he sent them in to help everyone black or white people alike.

the guy certainly has a point- but only to a point. His comments were taken too far and the sad thing was they can't be taken out of context- so he can't use that as an excuse if he ever decides to apologize. And blaming the President is ridiculous. In my opinion this guy swims in the same dirty water as that idiotic Pat Robertson.

without getting into a heated debate, The population over there is 60 -70% black, what percent evac'd before the storm? 80% maybe Do the math! its not racist for me to say a large percentage left behind unfortunatly is black, doesnt mean white people aren't/don't loot... it means its a better chance of seeing a black person looting just because of the percentage of white to black ratio out there in the city... come on now.

It doesn't matter what the ratio is. One pic had a white person "looking" for food but another pic of a black person "looting" food. There was no picture of a store in sight in either picture. Show me definate proof the black one looting & the white one finding the food & then I'll decide.

But based on what is SHOWN right now, there is no call to label one a thief and not the other.

no one is asking anyone to conform...

if you want a ratio, we have one....1 black person caught 'looting'...1 white person caught 'serviving'...that's a 1 to 1 ratio...explain that...

I understand that I am armchair quarterbacking the situation...my beef with the issue is that in what seems like an overnight operation we can storm Iraq...but it takes days on end to help our own people. I have an issue with what our priorities are right now. My personal beef is with the President and the federal government. Three situations that have happened in recent years drew me to this conclusion: One, 9/11...the government did an outstanding job...two, Iraq...as soon as the President wanted to go to war, we were there...three, Katrina...it took days on end to help our OWN people. What are our priorities?

Edit to discuss the last post: The state and local governments asked for help...the president declared a state of emergency...it was in FEMA's hands then...their jursidiction.

muni and state response was a complete train wreck, horrendous leadership (lack thereof) in a crisis. Fed should have had a way to realize that it was a complete horor show, hence stepped up their responce.
