cmy330go, the thought has crossed my mind on getting the HD Tivo. I had the SD Tivo upstairs for about a year but I never really used it that much, finally the hard drive or something went wrong with it and have never bothered to get it fixed or replaced. I should probally look into it, huh.
The HD Tivo will change your life! Ok, not really, but I love mine. It has really allowed me to enjoy much more TV programming and of course, I can watch it on my own time and skip commercials.

I'm not sure if you can still get it for as low as CMY330go said. I read that they discontinued that special. But if you are interested, call Directv's customer retention # directly (1-800-600-8977) and see what they can offer you.

I got mine at that price last week. Not sure if it has been discontinued since then.

According to threads over at Tivocommunity, the promotion ended on 9-27. When did you call and order yours?
I'm not saying Grimster can't get a good deal. He might, especially if he's a long time customer and retention can give him a large credit.

Mine was ordered on the 25th and arrived the 27th. However, my father ordered one on the 29th and got it on the 30th. They tried to give him a hard time so he threatened to change to dish network and they gave him the price and gave him $10 a month off his bill for a year. Guess you just have to push the right button. :D

The only problem I have with ordering a HD TiVo is with the SD TiVo, navigating threw the menus seemed to be such a pain in the ****. Everything seemed to be so slow, thats half the reason I never really used it. With my E86, things run just as quickly as I can press the buttons. Has TiVo corrected the slow navigation, if so, it may be worth looking into again.

No, unfortunately, the HDTivo is even slower than the SD versions. The SD versions have been updated to a newer software that is much quicker, but the HDTivo is still waiting. I don't mind the sluggish menus because I love the Tivo functionality and the ability to record in HD.

The update (v6.2) has been eagerly awaited by all HDTivo owners, but many believe that it will never come. D* had an HDTivo running v6.2 on display at the CES show back in JANUARY, but they still haven't released it yet. They keep saying that it is in beta testing.

Its just a much newer, more efficient software and adds a few desireable features like folders.

FYI, the current software on HDTivo is 3.x, which is like like 3rd generation software. Tivo keeps developing new improved software for its standalone units (I think they are up around version 7.x now). Beyond that, I don't know much about the software.
