I like the new 1080 sets. Not because it's progressive, but because it's 1080p. I hope you enjoy it. Good luck.

There has been a change. The wife and I went out to purchase the Mit when she got home last night and she said she didn't care for it. We where at the Tweeter's store and she seen the new Sony 70" Qualia, she feel in love with this tv until she found out it was $13k. The salesman then told her about the 60" SXRD that was only $5k. She looked me right in the face and said, you can wait a little longer, I want the Sony. This is the one I wanted anyways but I didn't want to ask if I could spend $5k. I guess sometimes its pays to take the wife with you.

If you can I would compare the 62 Mits you had to a JVC 61 DILA and see what you prefer. The DILA is going to be a very similar picture to the new sony. Both are a twist on LCOS. You also might want to consider giving the Mits another try. As you can see in my sig I have the 62" Mits 720p. When I got it home and first fired it up my wife hated it, as did I. After about an hour of tweeking using Digital Video Essentials I can barely peel her away from it. The picture is amazing even with standard old analog feeds. I know black levels are not as great as what a RPTV can do, but I must say it is far sharper than any RPTV I have seen (including Mits Diamond).

    Grimster,
The only worry I would have is that the 60" SXRD is not going to be a Qualia model from what I have read. It will be the same technology, but it may not have the same quality that the top of the line model has. They may go with lower quality optics and it may not be as carefully optimized as the Qualia. It is probably worth the wait to see though.
I think there is a long thread on the 60" SXRD over at avsforum in the RPTV section.

Well ladies and gentleman, I've made my final decision. Tomorrow I will be purchasing the Mitsubishi 62628 and taking delivery this Friday, just in time for the weekend. After much thought, I figured I'd go with a set (DLP) that seems to be working the bugs out of things. This LcOS technology seems really cool but it seems that everyone that has tried this technology has abandoned it for some reason or the other. Not only that, just doesn't seem like Sony will ever start shipping these sets. Last week when I went into The Big Screen Store, the 62628 was on sale for $4400, today I went into the store and Mitsubishi has reduced the price another $300, I'm guessing to keep up with the competition which was another deciding factor for me to purchase the Mitsubishi. I'm getting another 2" of viewing space, which I know isn't much, the cabinet is all black, not the dreaded silver and black and saving $900, need I say more.

    Congrats! and great choice!

Up until recently I worked in a nice electronics store selling HT stuff. The store carried the Mits, Sony, Panasonic, JVC, and Hitachi lines. After months and months of waiting for the "next best thing" to come out I got sick of waiting, and bought what I felt was the best at the time. I can honestly say that other than the new 1080 mits dlp sets, that I still feel I have one of the best tvs on the market.

Enjoy your new toy. Keep us posted! :)

I do get your point and agree. There is simply no denying that a tube still kicks butt. But I HAD to have bigger than a 34" wide screen. :o

My wife and I saw the 52" version at a local shop this weekend. She usually doesn't say much when I drag her into A/V stores, but made a point to mention how much she really liked it. I wish she wouldn't do that to me. There is no way we can afford a $3700 TV right now. :(

Grimster, Since this is a brand new model, you might want to wait longer and let the ISF technicians get a little time under their belt with this model. Good technicians will tell you if your particular model is a "Good Candidate" for ISF calibration. Some models are not good candidates because they do not track grayscale in a linearly and no amount of tweaking can fix this. Other models are very close to the proper color temp out of the box and do not really benefit from ISF. Remember, ISF Calibration is primarily designed to give you 6500k grayscale, which in turn gives accurate colors. Black levels, White levels, Sharpness, and color saturation can all be adjusted by the user with a calibration disk, obviously at a much lower cost.

Here is an example of what one of my local technicians has to say about calibrating different sets: http://www.advancedtechservice.com/setinfo.htm

I have heard that the colors on the new 1080P Mits is pretty far off out of the box, and I would agree with that assessment. Looked a lot better after some tweaking.

Grim....You just put the nail in the coffin. That new TV and custom stand just killed it. That TV looks awesome, and I bet the PQ is top notch as well. Excellent job on everything from the paint to the furniture, media storage, and TV selection. Professional looking through and through. Heck, seeing your set-up has motivated me to get going on my room. I added paint this past weekend. My next few projects for the first of the year are, SVS upgrade, black leather seating, and further on down the line, possibly an LCD or DLP television. This sickness costs us a lot of Cheese and takes time to perfect, but it looks like you got it down to a science. Congrats on the new room, and you and the wifey enjoy that BIG AZZ TV! :D

cmy330go, the thought has crossed my mind on getting the HD Tivo. I had the SD Tivo upstairs for about a year but I never really used it that much, finally the hard drive or something went wrong with it and have never bothered to get it fixed or replaced. I should probally look into it, huh.
