Is the reciept an invoice type, or just a typical one? An invoice type should have the serial number on it."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Check it out anyway, they should have included it as long as it wasn't a typical generic convenience store typre."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

They sure have a lot of remanufactured stuff on their website. I guess that means a whole lot of defects originally too.

Well I actually bought two receivers from them. The first one was immaculate, 100% functional and not a scratch on it; In contrast to the second one which we all know by now was not 100%.
The second one will arrive tomorrow...let's see what happens...Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

I'd bet that if one was to look at their defects on a "defect per number of manufactured" they are probably better or no worse than the industry standard. HK sells alot of gear worldwide and, for the money, is very hard to compete with. Denon and Onkyo are, IMO, the only ones that can really compete with them at their price point. Then it comes down to taste and needed/wanted features."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Agreed, 100%
The incidence/amount of defects appears high because remans are easily accessible from HK.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

Either way... this is quick turnaround time. What's it been? About 2 weeks?
This is a sign of good customer service in my opinion. If I ran a business, I would expect a 2 week turnaround too. Anything faster is too fast to handle especially when shipping with ground.

Thanks bud..I hope so too...
They got the return on the 17th and sent another one out on the 20th. Overall, it's been around two weeks between both units
I was pissed at first, but felt better when I called a rep on Fri. I requested a faster shipping method for the exchange unit and they came through with 2nd day air.Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

You were able to upgrade to 2nd day air? Wow... niice. This is what solidifies my belief that HK CS is great. Polk, HK, SVS... all great companies.
Let us know how you like your 2nd receiver.

Yamaha is good too. Especially the THX ones. Not to mention, that Z9 flagship is quite a powerhouse. You have to go out of that price point to get a Yamaha that, IN MY OPINION, can compete with the HKs, Onks, and Denon's in the sub $800 level. Though the Best Buy Yammies are in a different league than the similar lines of Sony, Pioneer, JVC, Sherwood, etc.., that particular series of Yammies just doesn't compete with the HKs, Denons, and Onks. That is just what I think, not the "gospel according to the Audio gods".
Yamaha does make very nice audio components, but should get out of the speaker side, unless they step it up a notch or two. They may make a line of speakers that I'm not aware of, but the one's I've seen and heard over the last several years, sucked."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

My uncle has a Yammie piano gloss center that we decided on for his HT. At the time, it was the best thing we heard in Best Buy. I still think it sounds quite good, but I'm not an HT guy. He's got an all-yammie front stage, and some little POS KLH rears. He has a big issue w/ WAF... my aunt doesn't want to see ANY speakers. We got her to allow the front L+R, but no subLudicrous gibs!

Ok...got the new 235 today and everything seems perfect. Not a scratch on it and everything works so far. Thank you HK:D

hey mike- if you use Dolby Prologic IIx Music Mode- i recommend setting the center width to 4.
and also- you can piggyback prologic IIx onto any source- including any DTS source. While DTS es or Neo6 will give you 6.1 playback, if you piggyback the dolby prologic IIx on top of it- you'll get 7.1. Just some starter advice for ya.
also- if you just want straight two channel- you'll get two choices - one will say "Surround Off" with "big" speakers on the display. If you want bass management with that to go to your sub (as I recommend) push it again and those "big" speakers on your display will go "small" and it will say "DSP".
have fun! -

Thanks guys for the tips
I knew about stereo direct and dsp mode. However, DPIIx is new to me. I am running a 5.1 set-up now, is IIx a 6 or 7.1 option only?
I'm gonna read the manual, etc tonight. I spent a lot of time lst night inspecting the unit and hooking everything up.
I do like the Dolby Virtual speaker option....really coolReceiver: harmankardon AVR235

Patience paid off. Like Nadams said, it could be a new, leftover unit, but most likely just a very clean refurb that only had a minor issue or something.
Enjoy,
