Take two, they're small (a ¼-ton each, anyway); a steal at $25,000 (cables not included).
[no subwoofer required].

When is Polk gonna come out with a no-holds-barred flagship?

I listened to a pair of these in a DAL showroom at their Colorado Springs, CO headquarters building. The bass was thunderous. However, you can get the same effect with a pair of good quality subwoofers. Imaging was great, provided you sit exactly in the center of the narrow "sweet spot" and don't move your head one micro inch.

$25,000 huh? I had trouble trying to see where all the money went. The drivers are high quality, but are off the shelf stock items. The crossover components and binding posts are good quality, but are not the highest quality available. The wood veneer finish is excellent, but even an enclosure this large will only use a few hundred dollars worth of veneer. Maybe the high cost comes from the low economies of scale involved in making very limited numbers of an item.

I was considering getting a pair of their SC IV/a's, but changed my mind after listening to them.

I'm sure these speakers sound great. The best I have auditioned were Martin Logans, Revel and Sonus Fabers. They sounded very good but ...FOR ME...and I stress for my taste and listening only, if I had 25 grand to spend today I would buy a pair of LSi9s (2 pair if I wanted to set up a nice HT along with a LSiC) and a good sub - maybe a REL and have a wonderful 2 channel music system.

The balance I would use to go out and buy a new Mustang GT! :D

    we carry Dunlavy,
and your right with the small image. If you move your heard 1 inch you will loose the image. But they do sound good, they hit hard and have a tall soundstage, mostly due to the height of them.
These are not one of my favorite speaker's.

Any speaker that takes a crane to move seems a bit of overkill. Novel idea, but the price seems steep too. Seems like you could build something like this for much cheaper.

Yes, they could be built much cheaper. However, each speaker cabinet is hand made in the USA by experienced wood craftsmen at the DAL factory in Colorado Springs. The crossover boards are hand assembled also. So, there you have it: limited quantities+expensive hand labor+expensive parts= High Prices For The Consumer.

By the way, the thing I liked most about the Dunlaveys was the way they looked. I didn't think they sounded significantly more accurate than my modified SDA's. In the imaging department, the Dunlaveys are no competition whatsoever to SDA's.;)

I just bought a leather La-Z-Boy recliner that took 8½ weeks to come in and cost $1,000.
Coulda gotten by a lot cheaper, but knew this was the way to go for me. My dad's La-Z-Boy is over 30 years old, and I expect no less from this one. Thus, I didn't mind the wait or the cost.
I wasn't even sure how it would turn out, as each one is different. But, I'm extremely happy with it.
It's the best tweek I've made to my listening room.

    guys,

with speakers like this you arn't really paying for materials, or even the fact that there hand made.

Most of the money goes into R&D and the design. There are certainly speakers out there that are farrrrrrrr more expensive than the DAL's....
