    Sid,

Got the Denon CDP today; hooked it up, and I must say that I am pissed......

I actually hear an improvement over my Denon 1910 playing CD's !!!!

This is NOT what I wanted; I was just looking for the convenience of throwing in 5 CD's and let the thing shuffle while I play poker with my pals...

    Can you imagine?

Me....starting to think on quality interconnects, sources, amps, tubes, DAC's.... and all that crap that you audiophiles talk about and until now I did not understand? I mean, for me music was good if it sounded clear and loud, but never ever really thought my ears would actually be capable of identifying an improvement over what I thought was great......oh my....I'll better do something to get banned on this forum, or my wallet will be sorry....not to mention the wife will be even more pissed.....

Now seriously, thanks bro, great player, well taken care of and nicely packed.

Man don't scare me like that... LOL

I had to double read the beginning of that post and double check. I told you that thing is pretty awesome, it is a very enjoyable player to listen to. It only gets better...well...maybe its worse from here?

I'm glad you enjoyed... I would of added more packaging - but - the original box didn't really allow for it, but I added quite a bit to it anyways...

Hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I did!

Wow, Sid's Denon sounds better than your 1910? Didn't expect that one. Cool.

Don't waste any time -- start saving up for an Onix CDP. In the meantime, get yourself some better ICs and speaker cables. Don't fight it, just do it.
HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50” LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

    Seriously,

While the Denon was a great player. The Onix is far supperior in almost every form.

Except one, the Denon was a tad more enjoyable to listen to as it was more forgiving and much more sub-dued and had that "kick" that makes you tap your foot. Not to mention VERY bass heavy.

The Onix is much more musical in accuracy, but dosn't seem to really capture it. If this makes sense. The bass dosn't pound you, its quick, textured and authorative when its needed to. I can still easily get involved in the music though, which is why I own the speakers I do - I enjoy the sound. But they seem to only get better...

The detail increase the Onix brought to the table was why I bought it from the get go. I wanted the extra texture in the cymbals, the extra layer of sound that was so absent from the Denon. The drums are much more real. Much more enjoyable to listen to. The piano and guitar in songs has a "weight" to it, and very 3 dimensional and detailed. Incredible sounding.

Everything is getting better, everything is opening up, and all the details and air of the music is coming out. Its a darn fine day.

    Bring on the power cables...

Now when will I upgrade the room?

Didn't expect that either...seriously; why, the 1910 plays awesome sound for movies and concerts, not to mention what DTS does......but this thing just connected with analog cables really shocked me; I will definitely not try to get into talking "weight", "3 dimensional" or "extra layer of sound" because I have absolutely no idea what these terms mean... in my own words, I think more "crisp" and "clear" would do; I would even think it is a little brighter on the good side.

What is the Denon 1910? lol...

Is it supposed to be an awesome DVDP?

If I've learned anything, there arn't many DVD players that can do music as well as a stand alone player. The only one that seems to be an exception is that Toshiba that was so big a while back.

The Denon DCM 280 has a very detailed, seperated and musical sound. My problem was getting instruments to have their own weight... and the extra texture that I have been trying to get for a long time. It was a very nice upgrade over my last player and I am glad it is an upgrade for you... I wonder how the DCM 380 or w/e performs...

    Terrax,
Have you noticed a burn in?

When I first hooked it up, everything was really bright, but it seems to have leveled out an incredible amount... similar findings?

    I am really enjoying it...

Although I do have minor complaints...

    1) No restarting a track, you have to go back to the last track and then go back to the track you are starting over... a minor thing, but still annoying at the same time
    2) To many buttons, small buttons - they jammed ALOT on this remote...seriously. There are ALSO of controls on here... I memorized alot of them though by now...
    3) Weak remote sensor, the remote has to be facing directly at the unit for it to work... bleh

Mostly complaints with the remote and features/design of the controls overall - the unit sounds absolutey fantastic though.

Yeah, I agree. Mine has started to soften up a bit too. When I first hooked it up, I was like no way, to harsh. But over the past two weeks, it has mellowed out a bit. Of course my SP3 needed some time was well, and I don't think either has really had time to settle in yet. As for the remote, it looks awesome, buy as for use, it does kinda sucks. The very limited and narrow angle you can use it in bites. Not sure what exactly you mean by not being able to restart a track, all I do it hit rev track skip and it works fine. There is like a 1 sec. delay, but I think that is cool.

Yeah, mine seems to be getting mellower each day, I've put around 50 hours on it so far... I really work out my CDPs ;)...

Ok, lets say you are on track 5... but you want to restart the track... so you hit the back button...

It takes you back to track 4 instead of the beginning of the song... (atleast for me)... a slight annoyance...

The remote is well built and all, very solid - but very hard to use - definetely is to narrow, they should of widened it up a bit and used bigger buttons. I thought my Denon remote was laid out incredibly well. I also miss the volume feature...

I like the 1 second delay as well... would be cooler if it like faded out then back in... buahhaha

I wish the power button worked! (on the remote) ;)
