Ok, I've owned two CDPs now...

First a Yamaha CDC 585, then a Denon DCM-280. The Denon has been really good to me so far and it sounds excellent!

But now...it is time to move on!

So that brings me to my next component purchase, that will finish me off for a while!

Will be here in 2 weeks or so I suspect.

Next... Power Cables...

Then??? (Nothings left!! :D )

Nice CDP! Make sure you check the cosmetics real good though :D
I highly recommend the OPA627 opamp upgrade if you can swing it.
As for a PC, for a very inexpensive option try the Zu Birth on Ebay. I just bought 2 of them. Only $55 each shipped (1m) with lifetime warranty, upgrade option and 60 day return policy. They ship fast. I ordered them a few days apart and got both within 2 days. They compare very favorably to the DH Labs Power Plus I'm demoing.

Excellent choice!!! This thing is light years ahead of your Denon.

Do what dragon said and get the opamp upgraded. Makes a big difference.

Also consider a Signal Cable PC. I just bought one.

About the cheapest I've seen them is $59.95 each and it takes 2 plug-in modules so around $120 plus shipping. I made some recently and sold them to several members with postive reviews. I charged $45 shipped per pair. It's very labor intensive though. It's like soldering freakin' spider legs to a tab of windowpane. I'd listen to it until it's good and broken in and then go from there. I'm sure we'll be hearing the play by play :D Maybe we can talk later ;)

    Here's a recent thread.

No need to solder, Sid. Just plug-n-play.

    Stone...

I am confident it will fit my needs, and it matches my B&K. Which sadly is a good thing, since B&K dosnt make CDPs - *CURSES*...

    If B&K did, I'd have a B&K...

    *sigh*

Your cdp is basically the music hall 25 in a slightly different outfit, correct ? You also paid much less too, which is fantastic. Are you considering upgrading the op-amps like the dragon suggested ? I have the same op-amps in my nad 541i but they are soldered in where are yours just pop out...

    I'm considering it...

    I like mods... haha...

But my goal is to get out of audio, not fuel it more.

So, where I go from here aside from Power Cables is an unknown path. (Car Payment, Gas, Insurance anyone?)

for 299.00 and the very reasonable cost to hot rod this cd player this is the best bargain out there that i know of as far as digital sources are concerned.you should take notes after the initial break in while the unit is stock.then get it hot rodded and explain the differences on this forum. thanks

TUBES!!!!! You'll save a butt load of cash. Tube rolling is CHEAP compared to gear swapping.

Remember, not all tube gear is hardcore. If you simply throw some tubes into a horrible input stage and/or transport, you will get less than stellar results.

Tubes are just one part of the equation, not the answer.

Damn, that sounded Jedi and ****...Dan where are you!? ;)

Tubes are on my horizon. Just not now.

I plan to get back into HT when I get a larger house, so it may be alot further down the road.

But, Only time Id get a tube preamp, would be when I can one that is 17" wide (I'm picky, what can I say), has all the inputs and outputs I need, and a freakin remote. Whats so wrong with a remote? (That dosnt empty me of all my money)

I'm sure with all those "requirements" people will say I'm not ready or dont deserve tubes. Well thats fine, I'm not losing sleep by not owning any. Form & Function are tied in my book and always will be.

Although when I get a dedicated HT, getting a tube preamp with only 1 input would be an ok thing as I would only have a CDP! Where as now, I have a CDP, XBox, DVDP, VCR.... *ponders* - (Even though I run a large majority through my VCR)

You'll be second in line, JCaut PMd' me...

But it is in good condition, but it is used and has a small pin **** on the left side, on the beveled edge, hardly noticeable. This is the only mark I know of.

Has original packaging + added packaging + manual + remote, shipping will be about 20 bucks I guess.

    Brent,
I have been in audio since I was 12, I have had 4 systems (main) and 2-3 seperate systems elsewhere. It gets tiring, I am just in this for now to do DIY and finish my current system. There won't be any component changes that arnt weak links... IE: I won't replace my preamp unless it becomes a weak link, and so on. Probally after I get done finishing my main system, I will get a new TV of sorts... who knows.
