By no neans will you be allowed back here if you go out and buy that, Thomas. If you're in need of a decent little sub to go along with the Athenas, I've got a 10" 100 watt Audiosource that does a great job for both music and movies."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

lol God no. I have no intention of ever buying that or anything by KLH. I just thought it looked kind of funky...

and it is a bandpass enclosure design.... in an average sized room, I'd bet the "one-note bass" would be all you'd get.Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo.

I've actually heard that POS at BB, and it sounds like crap."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Not only is it a KLH, its also a bandpass box. The only other sub for HT I know of that uses that is the Bose Acoustimas sub(if you call that a sub). To me KLH competes with Pyle as the biggest piece of crap brand out there.

Is the Bose a bandpass? I thought it was more of a transmission line type deal.
and NO, I wouldn't call it a SUB either....Bob Mayo, on the keyboards. Bob Mayo. -

OH YEAH, BABY, when it comes to those particular brands."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

The sad thing about it though guys, is that there will be plenty of ill educated, ignorant people that will buy that thinking that is the most amazing thing. And then after they hear it they will still beleive that is by far an awseome sub. I mean come on, did u guys look at the specs of that thing. a 12inch sub with 125rms behind it and it only manages to dip down to 30hz, and i would be willing to bet that it has a very noticable drop in db well before it ever hits the 30hz mark.
I cant not even to begin to tell you how disgusted i am with the lack of of inteligence that todays society has for good sound. Especially the kids idea of the more bass (no matter how distorted or one noted it may be) the better it sounds. It is ashame that audio quality has taken a back seat these days. Just look at most of the crap that is put out by professional recording studios. They could care less about the audio quality they just are trying to get it out so the kids can play it on there boomboxes as fast as they can so they can move onto releasing there next crappy recording of no talent bands.
I swear if i see another Honda Civic with three 15's flying through the parking lot with a garbled mess of monotone mush spewing from the trunk i think i might have to kill myself.
Well, okay i am done. I just had to vent a little bit.... pheewww -

Just looked on bose website & it appears that the old ones with the circle port in front were bandpass & looks like the new ones are transmission line. -
Hmmmm.......I'd call that thing a ghetto trash sub.Political Correctness'.........defined

after i was reading through my last post i realized i used the word kids a lot. Wich is kind of ironic considering that in comparing age to lots of the people on this forum i easily fall into this category as well. I am 19 and that is why i hate this crap even more. I feel disgusted by the stereotype that us "kids" have on us. Now that is not to say that there are not enlightned people of my age (case in point "me") but the mojority are the ignorant ghetto **** that i speak of.
Then the thing that really gets me going that i am conatsnty spending hours upoun hours making fine tuned adjustments to both my home theater and my two channel system and am constantly improving upoun it only to play music for my friends (say the word friends very loosley haha ) and they dont even realize what they are hearing.
Ignorant
"Man where is the bass!, turn up your sub"
Informed
"No, that is how it is suposed to sound, the sub is leveled with everything else, if there was suposed to be more bass the sound engineer at the mixing bored would have put it there"

"Naw dog, come out to my car, i will show you how it is suposed to sound"
Informed
"O yes please, please take me out to car so i can bask in the glory of your boomy mess, with zero imaging, harsh highs (if any, and not being washed out by everything else) and your twangy midrange"
Ignorant

Ahh yes, the argument that will never be won. And for all you car forum guys, no need to do any flaming towards me, for you know exactly what i am talking about, i am sure you are as pissed off as i am about the same thing. Like i said before (i think i did) We on this forum both car and home are of the informed. Hmm... i think if we ever decided to have a forum motto i put a vote in for that.
Well okay, this time i promise i am done ranting. I do feel a lot better now though.... -

The crowd yells " ENCORE....ENCORE".. Well said.
I just put a new system in my commuter truck and that's all I heard about from the lotboys here at the dealership. Man, you shoulda put 2 12"s or 15"s in there, and that don't hit like mine and **** like that. I'll put mine up against their's for SQ anyday of the week."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

But man, it's got lighted feet and everything! How cool is that? What a piece of crap!!! I'm with you guys 100%. The sad part is, it will probably sell....how sad it that? I found that trying to explain the points of good sound quality is just wasted most of the time. Let 'em have their crap boom boxes....:(Larry

"Can this possibly sound as good as it looks?"

Your so right, I was at BB a few weeks ago to buy a new dishwasher and decided to walk over to home audio to see what they had in sacd players. The kid that was on duty hadn't a clue, so he said he would go get the guy that was an "Audiophile", yeah okay. Well this 40 something year old man came over and I'm thinking well maybe he does know something. Well the discussion starts and I say that I was looking to purchase a new tube amp, and his face dropped and he said why would you want to do that. Well right then I knew that if wasn't Yamaha(No offense), Bose, and Monster cable he didn't have a clue. I was even looking for a decent cable and he was against anything but Monster Cable, period."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Bandpass is when the drivers are inside the enclosure with the sound coming out the hole/ports.
Transmission line is where the speaker is outside the enclosure with the iniside of the enclosure "loading" the back wave to make it come out of the port. Atleast from what I know.
Here are plans for a TL.
Bandpass enclosures can sound good....if you use a big enough hole ... I mean...how can something sound good when the sound is coming out of 2-3 inch holes...
KLH is an ok brand - their speakers and subwoofers (not that one) have a place in the market. They are very loud - and they do what they are meant to do just fine.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I love going into bestbuy or circuit city and asking questions that i already know the answer to and listen to the **** they will feed me. It is really fun. If you have not tried it yet i really recomend doing it one time. Or even better than that i like to ask questions about made up technology and listen to there bs then.

Not to roil the waters, but... I thought that Bose had a key patent on bandpass boxes which constrained the use of them by other commmercial interests (unless they take out a license)?
Am I just hallucinating? I am pretty sure I read that in one of Ray Alden's books... -

Probaby "their" particular design of bandpass box. The design is basic engineering, but I'm sure Dr. Blose....I mean Bose added something that made their's patentable

I kinda already do what Brent suggested sometimes just for kicks. Try it sometime, you'll be amazed at what kind of idiots these places will hire just to have a warm body."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,
