Watched the movie Saturday and I loved it. I was a fan of the show when it first came out. If you haven't seen the series, I don't know if you would enjoy it as much. I think knowing the characters before hand would make it more enjoyable.

I fell asleep about 45 minutes into the movie, couldn't figue out what the hell I was watching. Eh...I'm going to give it another shot over the weekend, but man alive the premise seemed a little ridiculous and I am the master of leaving my brain at the door before a movie like this. It's weird having an exact opposite reaction as everyone else. :(

I rented the first of four dvds of the first season of FIREFLY and I'm hooked. By far one of the best sci-fi space series out there, imo. Well acted, good scripts, and, for a tv series, some of the best special effects to date. I'm waiting for BB to get a replacement dvd of the second volume, before going any further. I don't want to skip ahead four episodes.

So after getting my curiosity stimulated again about the series, I watched SERENITY again and was just as, if not more impressed with it than the first ouple of viewings.

Does anyone know if there was more than one season of FIREFLY or if there will be????

Currently Noel there is no more, but, not all hope is lost. I watched this last weekend with one of my neighbors, she loved Serenity so she took my TV series disks and powered through all 14 in 2 days. She is hooked as well.
From junglejen9: Firefly. You gotta spill it if you have any additional info, please!
I've heard the CW is considering bringing it back as a series, miniseries or movie for next season. Hurrah! For you who missed my message board posting, on Tuesday, Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres were seen coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount, where they are putting together the new CW unit.

Awesome bass! Great sound during spacecraft scenes, SVS's got to dig low, thought I felt some infrasonics a few times. Movie was good, but not great. Some of the special effects were pretty good. I've never seen the Firefly series.

I just watched it again and enjoyed it the second time more than the first.

I also just saw Serenity as one of the 3 HD DVD selections at Tower (don't have an HD player yet). But since it did not do well in the theaters, could they be releasing it in HD because the series is being resurected?

Target audience for HD-dvd player adopters. We're the ones to most likely pick up an HD-dvd player first and movies such as Serenity will only entice.

so do these new hd-dvd's have the new dolby digital and DTS formats?

but we just don't have processors for them?

I would think the difference in sound would be there.

Yes, they sound like the best dts track you've ever heard. Cleaner and more detailed, more evenloping about sums of the difference. It's not a huge improvement like with the picture quality, but it's a noticeable improvement.
so do these new hd-dvd's have the new dolby digital and DTS formats?
Yes, DD+. The player downconverts the audio and most pre-pros / receivers see it as dts. Phantom of the Opera has a 2-channel DD-True HD track but it's only stereo and only via the HDMI connection.
but we just don't have processors for them?
Few do right now but more are coming.

I don't know how many of you have been watching Nathan Fillion's new TV show, "Castle". It's really good and was just picked up by ABC for the full second season.

For the upcoming Halloween episode of "Castle", Nathan Fillion gets to "revive" his Firefly/Serenity character :D

Yeah, it really was a terrible idea for Firefly to get cancelled. Serenity was an amazing movie, one of my all-time favorites.

If you haven't been watching Castle, you've missed a treat. Best selling mystery writer, Richard Castle, lives in NY. He kills off his bread and butter character in his last novel and is suffering writer's block. He's jonesing for new inspiration, accidentally get's involved with a murder investigation and meets the stunningly beautiful, no nonsense, homicide Det. Kate Beckett. He gives some unwanted, but on point advice, decides it's fun and the next thing you know, he's called his buddy the mayor. His new inpiration and character (Nikki Heat...new book title = Heat Wave) will be based on Kate Beckett and he's been given permission to ride along with the Homicide crew, partnering with her (she's ordered to cooperate) for the duration of the book writing. Fillion, of course, plays Castle and just eat's up the role (basicly Malcolm Reynolds in a suit). Stana Kanic is Beckett, supermodel hot and a very gifted actress. These two have tons of chemistry and the writing is top notch. The show's in it's 2nd season, so you might want to catch up.

BTW in the show and real life, Heat Wave has just been released. It's the same book that Castle supposedly wrote in the show. Fillion's been going around to fake book signings. It's on the NY Times best seller list and available on Amazon.

Show's on 10pm Mondays after Dancing with the Stars.

I love the scene in the beginning where the camera closes in on the ship, and we see it is Serenity, and then it drops into the atmosphere. I can watch this scene, and the scene in Aliens where Ripley and the Marines drop onto the planet, over and over and not tire of it.

Of course, I can also watch Jewel over and over and not tire either.

Didn't want to start a new thread over "Castle", but according to tvbythenumbers.com, based on info from trade publication Variety, "Castle" has been renewed for a third season.

Edit: Entertainment Weekly is reporting "Castle" has been renewed with a full 22 episode order for the third season, with last night's episode, featuring Dana Delaney, receiving the series' biggest audience to date....and ABC's biggest audience in that time slot for a scripted show in 14 years!!

    Yeah!!!!!
