Bar none one of the best pre-amps I have heard to date. I giant killer without a doubt.

I would have kept mine, but I like to try different things....<insert joke here>

Does anyone have any experience with his other preamps and amps?

I wonder if this preamp will sound better then my Marantz Receiver acting as preamp?

    I think that's a pretty safe assumption.

ever since Mark hooked me up with this pre amp, my audio experience has gone to a whole different level...

I can`t say enough good things about this pre amp...

It is an outstanding peice of gear at a great price..
and now Russman has helped to make it an even better deal..

you owe it to yourself to get one of these puppies, and hear what you`ve been missing...

For some reason though, when I flip the switch on , I get this urge to take my pants off..!!!

    What`s up with that ?!

Agree, TD... and see you've judiciously edited your sig... :)

    bd03,
I think what you're describing is called the "doro-effect"...

    I'm in on this...

Just got off the phone with Gary and he's had 15 or so e-mails as a result of this thread. To say the least he's very excited about the interest this thread is generating and how fast it has done so.

Couple other notes from our conversation...
Other than the headphone amp, he's no longer making stereo amps.... mono blocks only now.
His early headphone amps had a very low level hum that he's now solved.
He indicated a willingness to work on a group price on his other offerings, if there's enough interest in a model. If you are interested in another piece, I suggest you start a separate thread rather than muck this one up.

Thanks to Russ for the set up and Gary for extending the special offer.
    More later,
    Tour...

Went shopping at Dodd and just ordered a Mid Level Preamp from Gary. Can't wait to try it.

Uses the same tubes as my CAL Alpha DAC.

I think you're gonna be right. It should be a real delight. My first tubed preamp too.

Probably the most dramatic single change/improvement to the sound of my 2.3s I think happened when I went from a SS DAC to the hybrid Alpha. So much more pleasent to listen to at length at volume. The first thing I did when I got it was to put some premium select tubes in it, put a pair of TUBE SOX on them, vibration deadend the case, put Focal Pods under it and placed it on a Townsend air platform. (Last thing I did was have it upgraded to 24/96.) Was and still am very happy with it. My current SS preamp uses an outboard power supply and liking this design I was happy to find the Mid Level does too. It looks like a very nice piece of equipment.

Here are some shots. (None on website right now.)

Wow I want one... Too bad it's in Texas cause crossing the border might get a little pricy plus I'd have to get a nice seperate amp to go with it and of course get some doro-effect on :p . Very nice clean looking pre.

Thanks Russ for hookin us up yet again.

Bob - I started one, but quickly became overwhelmed with it all...and had to start moving it out the door. I tend to find stuff pretty often, but have recently been turning it right back into the market lately as I'm in "cleaning house" mode.

Russman finds the hardcore stuff as I tend to find more common items....speakers are my forte' :)

I've been thinking of getting a tube CDP, like the Jolida JD-100, to replace my NAD C541i just to get a bit of the tube sound in my system (which only consists of the NAD, Musical Fidelity A3 integrated and my Paradigm Studio 40's). So would going to a pre like the ELP give me a similar effect?

Tube CDP's are a joke, comparitively. A tube line stage will give MUCH more 'tube' sonics to your rig. Don't waste your money on tube CDP, unless you REALLY like the way it sounds.

    Russ
