Polkies, we have worked out a Club Polk member discount, with Gary Dodd, at Dodd Audio. The discount will apply to the ELP - Entry Level Preamp.

This is a world class, tube line stage, that you will have to spend upwards of a grand to beat. Tube compliment is a pair of 6DJ8/6922. Features Cardas RCA jacks, IEC power connector, and a dead quiet power supply. Front panel shows volume and source selector pots, mute/operate and power switch.

Stock version includes 2 inputs, and 1 set of outputs. Current price is $450 + shipping, with additional inputs/outputs available at $50 each.

Club Polk Version for $450 will include an extra set of outputs AT NO EXTRA CHARGE + FREE SHIPPING (great if you intend to bi-amp, run a subwoofer, or want to control 2 separate rigs).

The first 5 orders placed by April 15th, 2005, not only will get the extra set of outputs at no charge, and free shipping - but you will ALSO save and additional $50 - making your cost only $400 shipped.

EDIT *** I spoke with Gary again this morning, the offer above will be good for the ENTIRE MONTH OF APRIL - not just the first 5 orders *** EDIT

These are custom, made-to-order tube preamps, typical delivery time is 1 to 4 weeks.

    Trey,
This is the next logical step in your audio adventure. As nice as that B&K preamp is the tube pre may open a whole new world for you. It did for me and I haven't looked back.

Cool deal Russ. The extra set of outputs is nice too and it's convenient to have that flexibility available to run a sub with some bookshelf speakers for instance. What type of tubes does Gary put in stock?

Thank you, Russ! It's nice to see you, once again, go the extra mile for your fellow Polkies! You're a great guy.

    Sid,
LOL Ha ha, just when you thought you're finished with your rig, eh? Listen to what Paul told you. It's the next logical step for you. You won't believe the difference tubes can make in your system. Buy that sucka and hook her up to your SS amp. You're entering a whole new level there:).

The Dodd is in a different league, a better one. The AE is nice, the Dodd is refined.

    Faster,
Haven't heard either but from my experience and what I read around the net, you will get a different flavor with 6922 compared to your Audio Experience (U7 and X7's, right?).

The 6922 family are more neutral and transparent to my ears. I love them.

Cool. Tube roll on the AE while you wait for your Dodd. OR start reading around the net on 6922 and start hunting down some nice NOS.

Ask Dodd if the pre was designed for both 6DJ8 and 6922. A pre designed ONLY for 6922 will eat up 6DJ8 pretty fast because of the higher heater voltage. My pre was designed for both types. So far my favorite is the Mullard 6DJ8.

The Dodd ELP will take either 6DJ8 or 6922 Mil Spec. It's a Melos-based design. Dodd bought out Melos when they went under.

For those 'in the know', that should only further sweeten the deal.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Sweet! That means you have a lot of tubes to try out;). I find that 6DJ8's are warmer(more colored). 6922's are more neutral and clinical. But I need to try out more tubes to make sure my statement is correct. What do you think Russ? I'm sure you've tried more 6DJ8 and 6922 than anybody else here.

Mullard 6DJ8. Another one that I just LOVE is the 6DJ8 made by GE with black chemicals sprayed in the inside of the glass to block out RF and crap.

If your system is not on the bright side, the Sovtek 6922 is nice. I can see this tube sounding really good on my LSi9. It was too bright on the Klipsch. Next time I hook up the LSi I'm gonna try out the Sovtek again.

Gary is very interested in getting you what YOU want, my Dodd has an extra set of inputs with a cool little A/V toggle switch. I find the three sources, universal player, redbook player and vinyl to be just the ticket.

I just updated the offer above. Gary called me concerned that some had contacted him, hoping they could get the $400 together to be one of the first five to order.

He doesn't want anyone to worry - so the offer (edited above) has been extended to the ENTIRE month of April. After April, CP members will still get the free set of outputs, and free shipping - but to save the additional $50, all you need to do is place your order in the month of April.

    Cheers,
    Russ
