Just finished watching it. Very weird movie. Generally, didn't like it. I guess "film noir" isn't my thing. Three things I liked about it, though -- 1) Rosario; 2) the color (or lack thereof) was too cool; and 3) the SQ was 5 star, man.

I planned on a blind buy for this one. I wanted to see it at home. Bought it yesterday, and freakin loved it.

I'm with you Phuz, I watched this for the first time last night and loved it, awesome film. Some of the imagery jumped off the screen and looked almost 3D'ish at times. I cannot wait to watch this again, I have a movie night planned for Friday with some friends who have not seen this yet.

Watched it last night on my "state-of-the-art 2.1 system" :D , and thought it was very "different", but in a good way  . Will watch it again before passing final judgement on it. PQ in progressive scan was great and so was the SQ with Dolby Virtual running.
And I got it @ Wal Mart for $14.99, also.

I watched this last night as well. I am still uncertain about whether I loved it or merely enjoyed it. What I do know, is that it is a VERY faithful reproduction of the comics. I understand that this was the intent, but I am still impressed with the result. Since the wife is still out of town, I am going to watch it again tonight for all of the stuff that I am sure I missed. I agree with everyone's comments on the PQ and SQ.

Has anyone else read the comics?

You cannot call this one a comic book movie but more so a comic book come to life. At times it was like I was flipping the pages of a comic book instead of watching a movie. Very cool.

Yeah, it was very ingeniously done. If anything, it should win some awards for special effects or cinematography. I'll probably watch it again, either tonight or this weekend to catch all the little things I missed.

Rodriguez is known for doing 3-D movies.....this would have have been freaking killer in 3-D.

I watched it last night, and I enjoyed it. I was probably more captivated by the women, cinematography(sp?), and sound quality more than anything. The stories were great as well. Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis were good in this movie, and the ladies, woohoo! I did not think a black and white movie could be so appealing to me, but the splash of color here and there was nice as well. I give this movie a rating of 8 out of 10 over all. Check it out.

BTW, Best Buy gave out a free Sin City comic with the purchase of the movie. I paid $15.99 and the cover on my dvd featured Bruce Willis.

Ron, well said. I know what you mean about some things seeming to jump off the screen. The quality of the movie is brilliant, and just the way it was done overall is something genuinely new and different. This DVD is a perfect fit for any 16:9 screen, and it seems to have some sort of... something that a lot of newer HD programming has... that not many DVDs have. Something with the resolution maybe, or the contrast... I dunno.

There was a part in one of the extras where they said they didn't want to make the comic books into a movie, they wanted to make a movie into the comic books and that is exactly what they did. This is how all of the other "comic book movies" should have been done. Sin City has that comic book feel, it has that type of dialogue, vision, and re-occuring points/themes that kinda give you chills in the way that some comic books do.

Lotta hot half nekkid women running around too. That's always a good plus. ;)

A sequal is in the works.

I was blown away by the picture quality. Sure it's primarily black/white but dear god... the PQ was off the charts! I almost touched myself. Wait, no... I did.

Another point to be made is, this movie would have to have a NC-17 rating if it were in technicolor. Way too much gore if it was in real life-color, ya know?

I'm glad it wasn't in full color, I think it would have sucked. I'm in no way squeamish, but come on. Several decapitated heads, amputations, a freakin wolf chewing on a live body.

Phuz is 100% dead on. This is more of a comic book than any other movie has come anywhere near being. This blows Spiderman and all the rest out of the water in terms of capturing the theme. This movie was downright amazing. I understand that people are turned off by the violence, but I don't think it detracts from how well this movie was done.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie very much, I just don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much if it were done conventionally. I'm sure that alot of people would feel the same way. The way that it was done is what sets it apart from the rest of the "comic book" derived films.

To each his own. I don't know how we can judge what it would have been like in conventional format. Most likely I wouldn't have liked it that much, but mostly because I don't like the cookie cutter comic movies too much. Others would disagree. Just my opinion.

I didn't like this just because it was 'differen't. It had great sound and a great visuals that made me watch in anticipation the entire time. Plue the story was fabulous. It was a lot like reading an actual comic book. Almost filmed in the way your mind may image the story as you're reading it. In the end I'm sure everyone still 'got it'. So it wasn't a weird movie like Muholland Drive that didn't make a damn lick of sense.

I think we're agreeing here, right? The "to each his own" part is throwing me. Was that directed at me? I thoroughly enjoyed the movie also, and not just because it was different. Watching it in progressive scan and on the widescreen tube was fantastic, almost 3-d like and yes the sound was great, even on my 2.1 Dolby virtual system. My comment was made because I thought you were thinking that the violence turned me off the movie. Far from it. It would have "maybe" if it were done conventionally was all I was inferring.
But as you said, we'll never know now will we???

Well...I wasn't responding to you at all until you responded to my post that was in reaction Phuz.

And to each his own...meaning that on subjective material, such as this, everyone is going to have their own opinion.

I guess I should have asked....What is 'conventional' in movies anymore? Term is so overused.

 Conventional in the sense of cinematography or being a fully live or in living color. Sorry for the confusion. :)

Just finished watching it and thought it was great. It was very different and I really liked how they kept that comic book script and feel going. I really like Jessica Alba but it started to get a little creepy when she was hitting on bruce...

Did anyone else notice a little background noise when there were voices? Like when someone is just about to talk you hear the mix come in and there is a little extra garbage thrown in? If not I have something going wacky with my system :p

It reminded me of Pulp Fiction in a comic book setting, it even had Quentin Tarantino as a guest director. I liked it, it will be a tossup to see if I watch that or Saw tonight, I have both movies here and they were both good.

I really tried to like it, well, it sort of drug on for me, I like Willis but he is not Bogie, I got somewhere in the middle of the story and got on the forum and just listened to it, since it was done as a comic book this worked so-so.

I watched this a second time Friday and that about did it for me. I don't see me ever watching it again so I gave away the dvd. Altough it's well done the violence is a bit over the top for me.

    I should have rented it.

I just finished watching this flick, remembered seeing a thread on here about it and decided to add my .02.........Interesting and different, but in the end, it's a terrible movie.
