Mono Amps

Excatly how do the mono amps work?
i hear if you have a 600 watt mono and
the ohm load is right and say you have
4 subs runnin from that amp the watts
arnt going to be divided, right?
basicly if you have the amps hooked
up right and the ohm load is correct
then you should be running 600 watts
to each sub... am i right?

please correct me if i am wrong,
or and tips in using a mono amp

I am going to run my 2124' subs (2)
with a phoenix gold 600.1 xeon amp..

Mono amps only have one output channel. Hook a single 4 ohm sub to it and itll be working at a 4 ohm load.

Hook a pair of 4 ohm subs to it and itll be operating at a 2 ohm load. Say the amp puts out 500 watts at 2 ohms, its putting out 500 watts thru its single output channel but if you hook 2 subs up to it then it will spilt it equally and each sub will be getting 250.

the amp cant read the number of subs it
is putting watts to how would it split the
power why couldnt it be 600watts to both
subs if the ohm load is 2? would it depend
on running the wires parallel or cross them?

my concern is if i bought a 600 watt mono amp
am i going to be able to get the full 600 watts
through both of my subs? is it possible because
as i been reading on them i am under the
impression that is the way they work...?

If you take an amp that is rated at 600 watts at 2 ohms, and you hook up 2 subs putting it at a 2 ohm load, the amp is putting out 600 watts TOTAL. 600 spilt between 2 subs is 300 each.

Yup. It would work just fine.

It, like most PG amps is underrated so youd probably be getting 325 or so per sub and that would be fine.

Those are 400 watt subs so they could handle a little more but if youre wanting this amp then go for it.

Thats easy.

This monster from MTX would pound those subs for all their worth and then some.

MTX are about my favorite amps and now that theyre at ridiculous prices on Sounddomain right now I wish Id bought them instead of my Crossfires!

It's a great amp, I considered buying it when I had my 2124's. And it's all rated good great and wonderful so you be bumpin all down the street all day long.

and if you ran the subs as 4 ohms then it would only put 400 watts out to both?

LMAO...The amp will put out a total of 800, divded by two subs, they will each get 400. Not that hard to understand...Adam even spelt it out for you.

Good gives you plenty of time to ride your bike down to barnes and noble and pick up car stereo cookbook and get reading for some basic understanding.

It isn't all that hard... just take your time and you will figure it out.

That's fine if your a pro... but not everyone else is, see what I mean? And you should really checkout car stereo cookbook it has alot of stuff that helped me understand what was going on.

Your only doing this for the "cool" factor anyways so it's alright.
