When the original GFA-5x5 series of amps came out it was remarked in more than one location that the smallest one (535) was the best sounding of the three.

Maybe THAT'S where Sid got his info.... several years before he was born. Wherever he got it, he's right.

Thank you George for the info. I bought my 555 some 15 or more years ago after reading all kinds of reviews on the 535, 545, and 555. The 555 was highly rated by the Stereophile magazine.

As one of the Stereophile review put it, the 555 seems to be indestructible. After so many years of trouble free use, when I hooked it up to the front channels of my ex Sony STR-DA4ES, sound quality improved, though not really by much. After I traded the Sony in for a Denon 3805, the 555 was still able to improve the front channels SQ, but at very loud level only this time.

Still, I was surprise to find that this near 20 year old amplifier could sound better than the 3805. I will never sell my 555. I hope Faster100 will keep his too. He can get his Parasound and still bridge the 555 for the center channel.

Too late, for my 2 channel rig the adcom was just to harsh and didnt have the bass i wanted.. what they are proclaimed for.. I got the parasound today and this I think is what i have been searching for.. very nice amp from the limited time ive used it today... Nice bass and beats the adcom and rotel in clarity.. The rotel not by a huge margin but still does..

    I sold the adcom already...

Yeah, the original GFA-535 was a GREAT amp, much better than the series II version of it, IMO...

545, same way. The original 545, to me was better than the series II.

I have no experience with the 555 amp except from what I have heard from others...

I need to hear Parasound...heck, I still need to hear Rotel...

BTW, any of the 3 vintage speakers mentioned here dig lower than your powered towers......LOL, pretty funny eh!?!

EDIT: I really am out on this one. Go ahead and have the last word, if you'd like.

You sure about that F1? I had to try to find these links before I could post them, but here they are. Check out the MEASUREMENTS on this critter. Brent Butterworth measured the U2 to be 26Hz-180Hz +/-.2dB (not 2, *point 2*) with the -3dB at 21Hz and 250Hz.

And that was for the U2 or T5 subs. The T6 subs are double the drivers and double the power.

I own 3 NHT M5 across the front with L5 surrounds on walls in my main home theater system.

I was torn between NHT subs and SVS. I ultimately went with dual stacked PB10ISD with the left and right M5 on their pedastal stands mainly because of the price and our own Doc Spec's recomendation to me, but I would have been very happy with NHT subs as well.

I'm not getting involved in the argument here if these are powered towers or not, but I have some Infinity IL60 interludes, and to me they are powered towers with their built in amps.

Just going on the info provided by the aforementioned companies. Individual experiences/set ups will differ, I'm sure.
