Great response there Mr Nut! Simply brilliant! You must have hired a professional writer for that one.
I thought you were finished here Troy. What are the 4K powered towers you are referring to? If it is the NHT T6s, they are not powered towers, they are actively bi-amped. But, I guess you obviously must have already known that with all your experience, huh?
Again, the "landfill" comment that started all of this was intended as a joke. I apologize to anyone here I may have inadvertantly offended with it (although I honestly can't for the life of me see how it would have offended anyone) except for the three individuals who really got their panties all bunched up in a wad over it.
As I already stated, basic speaker design is pretty much the same as it has been for decades. With that said however, it has progressed, especially in driver materials and cabinetry. I hear NHT has something about to come out that will be the "next big breakthrough" in speaker design though.
Also, I want to point out that I have not "trodded" on anybody's equipment here (with the possible exception of what I said about Yamaha gear, some of which I have and do own) as some here have said I did (the same ones, I might add, who themselves "trodded" on Klipsch), and if I did, then show me where I did it with quotes and I'll will come back here and openly admit that I am wrong. -
blah blah blah blah blah......
I know, I said I was done but I really enjoy someone who continues to make themselves look like a one legged man in an **** kicking contest.
For the record, I like the T6's. They sound great. Do I think they are worth 4 large? Not a chance.

Who said I gave 4 large for them?
And if you really think that you have come across as looking so brilliant here on this thread, then that says it all right there more than I ever could and there is nothing further to discuss. -
It must be tough going through life as you, good luck!

Personally, I could care LESS what you gave for them. When I looked at them, MSRP on them was, I believe, 4K. Regardless, they would still be third in line in my house, so at any price, I wouldn't be interested. Not saying anything bad about them but, IMO, they aren't as good as the 15-20 year old speakers that I already own.
Again, I could care less what you think. Most folks 'round here have made up thier minds about me a LONG time ago so me kibitzing back and forth with you isn't likely to change much.

You don't need it to wipe yourself off, just rub it off on whoever you are giving the golden shower to. -

Glad we could entertain you all! That last post by Troy, I swear I laughed so hard that my ribs started hurting. I could just picture him sitting there staring at his monitor with his mouth hanging open when he typed it. LOL. That was even better than when he called the T6 a powered tower ("ding, fries are done") after stating all of his extensive experience and knowledge of that speaker.

This I could not resist!
From NHT's website:
"The T6 combines the Evolution M6 monitor with its own sonically and cosmetically matched powered subwoofer, ( B6 bass module)"
"System includes two Evolution A1 250w Amplifiers and an X1 Active Crossover to power and control the B6 subwoofers"
"Description: Tower loudspeaker system employing two M6 monitors, B6 bass module mirror image pair, 2 A1 amplifiers, X1 active crossover, mounting brackets, hardware and wire management system included.
Frequency Response: 26Hz 30kHz +/-3dB
Subwoofer Power: 500W RMS."
So, what does all that mean? THEY ARE POWERED TOWERS!!!Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."

Actually they are not...
From what I read? They arnt....
It has a bass module, that comes with an amp - basically this is biamping, since one amp is powering the lows and ones is powering the top end...
The LSi15 employs this, but it dosnt come with an amp... just because u power it serperately dosnt make it a powered tower...
If I were to stack a subwoofer with my mains, and it was powered, does this make my mains powered towers? I dont think so
"Bass Module, Amp, Crossover" - It isnt even a pair of the top portion man!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Sid, wth are you talking about? The sub is powered..."Subwoofer Power: 500W RMS." The top isn't powered by the sub amps. It's just like any other powered tower, just has separate cabinets.
"The two components bolt together to form an integrated, high output tower loudspeaker."Political Correctness'.........defined

An "active" speaker is a powered speaker, period. It's commonly in a subwoofer application, but sometimes in other forms. Either way, the speaker is augmented by an internal or external amplifier, it's pretty simple to understand.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I know...
However...
This isnt really a powered tower.
hell, its not even a tower (to me)...
You could easily take away the subwoofer and put the top portion on a stand and use the bottom portion elsewhere.
It is a bookshelf on a passive subwoofer that has an amp included with it. It even pictures the amp on the NHT website...
I guess it depends on how you look at it. Yes, the speaker has a matching subwoofer, cosmetically and sonically. But no matter how you flip it, turn it - its still not a tower and its still not powered. If you were to sell the amp that comes with it, then it'd be passive...
Its a Monitor + Matching Subwoofer + An amp designed for that subwoofer.
Thats how I look at it. I guess you could call it a powered tower, whatever.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Right from NHT's website.
While it may not be what we consider a traditional powered tower, more of a sub/sat affair, it is NOT a traditional 3-way design like the AR9.
Whatever, it still ain't worth 4 large. I'll go to the landfill and scoff up all of the vintage AR9's, DQ-10's etc speakers that sound as good or better for a fraction of the cost.
The bottom line is this, folks, I'm not knocking the Klipsch or the NHT's but the 'landfills' are full of speakers that will give you a level of performance that is at least as good if not better. How you spend your money, I could care less, but to just scoff outright at speakers that you've never heard just because of age is foolish.

Hello TroyD, I have not heard about those AR acoustic suspension speakers for a long time. Years and years ago, I used to have a pair of AR3a at my parent's home. Then I bought a pair of tiny AR7 for myself while in university. I remember they produced such clean and tight bass to the point most people would complain about their seemingly lack of bass, despite their gigantic size (by today's standard). I listened to many speakers in those days and I don't remember anything came close in terms of sound quality. The KEF reference line may have a slight edge in high frequencies but could not compete in bass.
Have you ever listened to the 3a, and if you did, did you think they sound as good as the modern time 4K (ok list price) NHT T6 also? Do you know of any "landfill sites" that have these old AR speakers. -
I owned a pair of AR-3a's for awhile and I think they compare very favorably with a lot of todays designs.
Do I think that they are at the same level of the NHT's? No, but we are talking apples and oranges. I felt that the 3a's lacked a good bit of detail and the highs were vieled and rolled off, however, the low end response is to die for.
Nor do I think the 3a's were in the same league as the AR9, either.
Far as where to find them, shoot, ebay, audiogon...they show up from time to time. One of the few speakers that actually appreciate in value, actually.
BDTI plan for the future. - F1Nut -
Thanks for the quick response! I guess it is a bit much to expect a 35 year old design to compete with today's. Still, its hard to erase those fine old memory.

I just saw a pair of AR9's on the bay recently. One of the tweet's was butcher style replaced, and one of the woofers was missing. It was STILL bringing two Franklins!!! ****, I wish I COULD find a pair at the landfill. I'd be one trash pickin' son of a ****!!!:D
