ya know the funny thing is that these older guys, if they actually stoped to think back to being our age, would remember their elders saying the EXACT same things about them, and ya know what? they got just as annoyed about it as we do!

I rebelled through Zappa and Hendrix. If I had diarhhea mouth like you guys I would've had false teeth by the time I was 19.

If you weren't there kid, you don't know what it was like. You can only speculate. From what I'm hearing, you're not too good at it.

    1. When i wear a hat i keep it straight

    2. I rarely curse (sometimes in forums but rarely in actual vocalization)

    3. My rebellion is by being counter-cultural, i don't act like these little posers that annoy me as much as they do you, I'd love to beat the crap out of ashton kutcher (spelling??) every time i see him in one of those stupid sideways trucker caps. I rebel by being a gentleman and actually treating people with respect (rare enough these days to be considered 'rebellious')

George, you know absolutely nothing about me, yet for some reason you feel the need to stereotype me based on nothing more than my age. Get a clue bud, the more people you judge the greater the odds that you'll miss out on someone who could wind up being a true friend.

    Stereotype.

I hate that word, what is a stereotype based on? Facts. Things people have actually encountered, and seen first-hand.

Joel, don't sweat it, stick around and the difference WILL be noted. I can't tell you how many doors I 'hold open' in any given day. Chivalry (and basic kindness) is FAR from dead my friend, keep up the good work.

    Cheers,
    Russ

sadly it's desperately hanging on with lifesupport in my generation.... I have my father bailing on my family to blame for the respect i show people lol, my mom and sister did the brunt of raising me and i was taught to respect women...

i've seen far too many friends hurt by guys... course on a couple occasions i've hurt the guys back  If one of my friends says 'no' she means 'no or joel will beat you to within an inch of your life'

the thing is that when someone starts talking bad about young people when they dont even know them and then they wonder why young people lose respect
i show the respect im given, if im not given respect, dont expect it back-if you do, well then you my friend are a man among men:)

Respect isn't given, it's earned. Recognition of that is something that's learned. Our kids will undoubtedly have that carved on my tombstone - they've heard it from me all their lives.

Our eldest son, now 31, quit job after job in his early 20's. His rationale was invariably "Dad, they didn't give me any respect." Two years ago he started his own company. Near the end of his first year in business he called me and said "Dad, I sure have a lot of respect for people I've worked for in the past."

From the cradle, our kids have been taught to be respectful. We are very proud of their manners and genuine concern for the rights and feelings of others. At times they've been dismayed by the lack of similar virtue in others. We tell them that the lessons learned in those situations are very important - those people are teaching you how you don't want to be.

What Cody is trying to say is that age is nothing but a number and there is a certain amount of respect that is afforded a human being as a human being. Beyond that, it's a moot point.

However, if you are going to disrespect someone based solely on thier age, be prepared for what follows and the frustrations that ensue. If everyone wants to play high and mighty then go ahead but the real problem is that so few people who talk a good game online and nothing special in real life.

Follow one simple rule, if you don't know who or what you are talking to online then ask yourself that if you were in the most extreme face to face confrontation with this person you are about to be an **** towards, would you disrespect them without fear of retribution or would you lack the nards to open your mouth and take what you have coming to you?

It's not about respect in the sense that so many "older" people feel they deserve it because they are "older". I know many older people who deserve no respect. It's about respecting another person's views, opinions and choices as thiers and allowing them to live thier life without your torment because you do not agree with thier point of view. If you think that THEY have disrespected you then you owe it to them, yourself and humanity as a whole to be a better person and tell them that you didn't appreciate it and give them a chance to redeem themselves. If redemption fails to rear it's pretty little head then all bets are off and one should prepare for the ****-whupin' one is about to recieve.

This is not meant to single out anyone here nor is it meant to cause hard feelings. The pissing contests are not needed and everyone should just shove thier wangs back in thier pants and grow the hell up! Respect is both given AND earned but if you don't give a little respect to someone they will never feel the need to earn the rest.

"ture"??? Refer to BMDP's "spell czech" lyric...

Toss up at this point whether you make "the list" based on that or an apparent refusal to accept that words often have multiple meanings...
