Sid, awesome job on those speaks, they look mad-awesome.

Russ, what book will you be sending him? I'm interested in speaker construction too, I'm trying to create a library on this stuff, right now I have 5 overdue library books, and a radio shack speaker construction book from the 70's.

Very nice, lil' bro... and you should ace shop this semester...

Can see them handling your acoustic duties, much like John's smaller FR's did at the bottlehead meet...

Now Fred's seven foot, birch wonders... much broader range. Absolutely mind-boggling... Audiogon, huh?

Very nice! I like the idea of the whizzer cone to keep out all the xover nastiness. The Bose 901 has no tweets and it is very listenable for long periods of time. Less is better.

Thats a great job on your first project. Congrats! It looks awesome - very professional.

Makes me wanna give something like this a try as well ;). I have some extra wood lying around my place :). All I need is the remaining little parts and a lot of time.

Great job, Sid!! Glad you like them. I don't believe I've ever experienced this 'sound' of full-range, one-way speakers; would like to some time, I believe.

Is nobody goin' to jump on madmax for making a good comment about Bose?!?!?! :p:D

    lol

    Peace.

The Full range sound is different, for sure

As for the Bose 901, it is actually a well regarded loudspeaker ;)

You tell 'em, Sid... At least through series II the 901's were very well regarded. Certainly were among the most affordable, high-power rating speakers of their day. They started sliding with the Series III, and the rest is history...

Many folks had/ have issues with the 901's needing the Bose EQ box. However, it was tailored specifically for a given series to help those 9 little drivers per ch reproduce frequencies they could not on their own.

IMO, this does separate them from true FR's, but another view is that while the 901's get an electronic assist, FR's get an acoustic assist from "pipe" designs. Two routes to the same end in some minds.
