1/4 life crisis

Can it be true or does something happen to man in his coming later years?

Over the last few months I lost my intrest for audio and video and got back heavy into cars.Sporty cars, fast cars, sexy cars.......cars cars cars.Everywhere I go I want to look at cars.I find myself at dealerships taking test drives and loving the new or old passion.

What has happened that sparked this is I don't have a company truck to drive back and forth to work.I use it from a store to the job sites but have to return it when the days is done.I used to work from home and now they want to see us everyday.....ok so I need a 2nd car.

My first thoughts was to buy another Nissan Maxima for practical reasons.Great car, reliable, good on gas,had one before and had o problems with it etc.My last 2nd car well last 2 where a 1988 Linclon Mark VII and a Buick 1987 Turbo T(Grand National). They both sat due to the company truck and I drove them once and awhile on weekends when the entire family wasn't coming with me.When we did the family ride,I just bought then a brand new Nissan Xterra 4x4.Ok first SUV and we loved it.

Today I don't love the family ride anymore.I considered getting it out and buying a new family ride in the Nissan Murano.Hot sexy all wheel family scoot......

So I bought a Hot 4 door German sedan. Why???Because I wanted superior handling and good excelleration. It makes me feel younger and more egressive. Why I desire these feeling is very strange as I haven't felt this way in a long time.I also considered buying another Grand National so I could build another 11 second 1/4 mile monster......

So who out there shares these agressive feelings?
Dan

    Man, egressive? agressive? excelleration?

Maybe you shouldn't have opted for the floormats and found a speak-n-spell instead?

Nothing wrong with cars, cars are COOL. Why did you get a beemer? It's a nice ride, that's why, and we all know you like the nameplate and the new car smell.

As far as audio goes, maybe it isn't in your 'sole' like you thought?

    Cheers,

    Russ,
yeah yeah I know I can't spell or type for ****......

Audio will always be in my soul "sole".Upgrading and upgrading so much, doing it for a living, putting so much into it,I just lost a bit of steam.Haven't you ever felt tired of it all?

We have polks at work so not only do I own them but I install them all the time.I think it's cool but alot or much at times.I also am alittle burned out from work so I feel that has alot to do with it.

Star Wars coming out tomarrow has me feeling a bit juiced.I'm gonna buy them again.

If you can, go with a motorcycle. After you ride one, you will lose all interest in caged vehicles. The performance of a modern sport-bike is stellar and nothing can compare. After that, it simply doesn't matter what brand/vintage cage you prefer for inclimate weather. I'd suggest a good 4WD vehicle Jeep/Truck, etc that is manly (not a 4-cyl mini-suv) and enjoy playing in the dirt/snow.

Thats really all anyone needs. A good sport-bike and a good 4WD. This covers all your bases.

    Ron,

I'm going to disagree with you on 3 points.

    1. A "man" in Brooklyn let's say, does NOT need a motorcycle. He may not need a vehicle of any sort.

    2. A "man" in Brooklyn let's say, certainly doesn't need a four wheel drive vehicle.

3 A "man" driving in stormy weather, is driving in INCLEMENT weather.

If a man has his head together, and he is IN his later years, he just may drive a vehicle that can get him safely and reliably from point A to point B, with no pretentions, or delusions of grandeur. And that's a fact Jack.

The very thought of a 1/4 life crisis is hilarious. Seeing how few of us live to see 120, I'll assume you are under the age of 25. What are you going to do when you get about halfway through and life deals you some **** hands? Meltdown completely? You'll be a big help to your family that way. Big help to society as well.

Especially for those who choose not to protect their noggin. (at least around here).

I'd love to have a bike, but I could only ride it in the neighborhood and feel good about doing so.

In my opinion everyone should have a 4x4, a performance car, 2 channel audio and a few other hobbies they enjoy. I switch my interests around every now and then but never really get too far away from any of them. How about this, put a big **** stereo in the new car...

I think that everyone should have a hobby, however, If I've learned anything, if you are looking for true happiness or fulfillment in audio, cars, bikes, 4wd's or whatever, you won't ever find it. There will always be something else.

Real happiness and contentment is found in your family, friends and loved ones. In the end, gear is gear and cars get you from point A to point B. People are what matter.

    madmax,

camera and videos coming right up, I was thinking of sending them via the Bobsey twins if that's ok?

I know what you mean, my hobbies constantly flip-flop from audio, to guns, to motorcycles in a continous circle, though audio is my oldest hobby.

Right now I'm content with my system, so I'm looking at building another AR, a carbine this time.

So many hobbies, and so little time...:D

OK, Troy is dead on, man.

Toys like cars and audio and stuff are a ton of fun but when it comes down to it, family and friends are where it's at. You can have the biggest TV out there and the biggest truck to get it home in but you're watching movies on that big TV all by yourself, it's kinda lame.

We all like our toys. Hell, I drive my favorite toy every day! I derive great joy from driving it but it doesn't replace a good buddy, a couple of good beers and a Sunday afternoon watching the latest sporting event on TV. It doesn't replace Friday night movie night with the wife and kids or father and mother or even a bunch of friends!

Out of all the fun I have had with my toys, the most fun I can remember is sharing my hobbies, joys and loves with those close to me. My absolute BEST memories didn't involve my toys at all.

Too many people having a mid-life crisis fall into the trap of trying to fill that hole in thier lives with material things rather than going back and picking up the pieces of the neglected item that filled that hole in the first place.

If you are doing things in your life right, you shouldn't have an empty or mising feeling. You shouldn't have to sit back, look at your life and what what you have to show for it. Toys are fun, money is nice to have but without family and friends, you're just another poor soul.

JSTAS- Right on brutha. Nothing beats being content and having good friends to spend time. I never realized how unhappy I was until I met my new (and MUCH improved) wife. Never thought life could be so effortless. I'm now able to enjoy my hobbies far more than I ever could before, thanks to the beautiful woman I married, who, even when she's not interested, understands my passions and embraces them.

Children don't need toys, they have this wonderful thing that adults forget about or look down upon. It's called...an imagination.

I didn't grow up poor but I certainly didn't have all the toys that my friends had. They had action figures, video games and all the like. All I had were some baseball bats and balls, a baseball glove, radio controlled cars that I built myself, a Matchbox cars collection and Legos.

Kids don't need toys. Thier parents buy them toys to occupy them and keep them out of thier hair so they can "relax". One of the most relaxing things I can do is to go to my future uncle-in-law's house, get down on the floor with his two 6 year olds and play with the Legos, Lincoln Logs and cars.

Children don't need toys, no one does. They just think they need them to be happy. It's okay to want material things like toys but if someone actually NEEDS toys to keep them occupied then, well, that's just sad.

Don't get me wrong. I find great pleasure in my toys and hobbies. Do I need them? No. Infact, I'd probably be a richer man if I didn't have them. Do I want them? Yes! Emphatically yes! But I don't want them because I think they will bring me happiness. I want them because I enjoy them. I can live without them and I'll still find something enjoyable to do with my time. So if they ever go away, I'll just ask my imagination "Where do we go from here?" and I can guarantee that where ever the next destination is, it's gonna be really cool!

No one is saying to get rid of the toys, just to keep them in the proper perspective. I am going through a serious family crises right now and all of my toys can't fix it. What they are doing, is allowing me to take a small breather to regroup and destress a little from this situation.

I also use this board for the same purpose, then I get back to dealing with the situation.

All the toys in the world can't take the place of your families & responsibilities, nor should your age.

Enjoy your toys & hobbies, just keep them in balance with the rest of your life and responsibilities which are far more important.

    Polksters,

I agree, this past Saturday I sat down with my brothers, and my pops who a few months ago had open heart surgery and said the audio stuff is secondary, just sitting their talking, laughing, drinking, and just sharing their company makes you feel complete, toys come and go, but family is forever. I feel like I just went to one of those bonding weekend in the woods!!!!;)

Otherwise when they grow up, they will say.. when i was little i had no toys and won't realize the happiness a great toy brings a child.. I have 2 girls and although i stay at home with one and the other just started kindergarten and so i spend lots of time playing with them, Dad can't always replace a barbie doll with clothes and accessories, or a soft baby doll to carry to the store with.. Toys aren't everything.. But kids need them to learn and explore new things.. Adults need them also.. to an extent.
Of course we all know family and friends are #1 first and without them the toys don't matter..

It's easier to say we can live without things, while we still have them! :)
