That's All Folks

Hey kids, after six years in the marketing department of Polk Audio, I'm turning in my pen, my micro-recorder and my computer and leaving Polk Audio. Not an easy thing to do. I love this company, an underdog if ever there was one; I love its products, for their real quality and their honestly good sound (and for teaching me what good sound is), I love the people I worked with -- except for the ones I don't -- and I love the forum regulars who taught me the true power of a brand and its message. And who brought me beer. Upon my tombstone please carve: "I tried."
I leave you my suit of armor and my electric fireplace complete with fire-poking things; my bulk box of Instant Ramen; a stray "Maxim" magazine (the one with Jennifer Love Hewitt, I already have one at home in my bathroom); PolkBusters; some under-desk lint; a binder of sub box designs; an antique 7Up bottle and a limited edition R2D2 toy; my wall art installation of unused professional seminar brochures ("Communicating With Diplomacy & Professionalism," etc.); some cut-away subs; my ceramic bikini babe; my canned food pen-holder collection; the 2000+ custom logo Polk Audio Amp Gain Mini-Screwdrivers stacked in my office, and my Quacker from the Baltimore Duck Truck.
I will be around. Not leaving Baltimore. Not leaving the audio industry. Always emailable at ultramicah@yahoo.com.
Thanks Josh!
Micah!

"I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us have...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad..." -
Wow
I don't even know what to say, it's sort of like the end of an era, to be honest. I really have a hollow feeling about this whole thing.
If you stop and think about it, Micah, for many of us IS Polk Audio. Sure, we love the gear but Micah was our link to Polk, he is what made us a family. Go back a few years and it was Micah's toil and so forth that got this forum on track.
I'd like to think of Micah as a friend and to see a friend take a step that he feels is in the right direction, you rejoice for your friend. However, as a forum member, it leaves me, well, sad.
Good luck, Micah and for my behalf, thanks for all you have done for us as a whole and for me in particular.

Micah has a way of saying different things, but only typing it once.
I re-read his post, and I think I 'get it'. Micah's brain moves pretty fast.
Something happened. I don't know what, who, where, when or why. I have a feeling this is the beginning of the end of Polk as we know it now.
I suspect a new 'corporate' Polk is underway, no more 'family' feel. No more DIRECT contact with the consumers (fans). Big, mighty, COLD audio company, just like all the rest.
I really really really hope I'm wrong.
Jesus, I feel like my puppy died, and I don't even have a puppy.
Cheers,

Micah:
WOW WOW WOW!!! I can't believe you're leaving. I'm sure it's a good career move for you though. Sometimes we have to think about A #1 first and foremost along with our future.
Glad I got to meet you a few times in person. Hey, we're still fellow Balto-morons, so by some strange coincidence, we may bump into one another again.
Want to thank you for the help you've given me in the past. The tour of Polk HQs last year was great. You did an awesome job coordinating it. You played a huge part in making the forum, among other things, a great knowledge base for Q & A's.
Going to shoot ya an email to your posted address.
Good luck!

You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
I hope that's really all it is, and I'm GROSSLY over-reacting.
I'm just suprised that Paul, Matt, Stu, Al, no one from Polk has chimed in, saying anything on the matter. Maybe it's just me, but I think someone who has done all that Micah has deserves a *little* more than simple, self written 'good bye' post.
Cheers,

Huh, I didn't mean to log back onto this thread (I panicked and didn't recall my password), but I just wanted to nip something small in the bud.

Nothing happened. This is certainly not "the end of Polk as you know it." Altho that's flattering. It's JUST the creative writer leaving to write someplace else.
Polk Audio is still Polk Audio, and the things you and I both love about it will remain. This is a GREAT company, the best place I have ever worked, so full of love and potential for greatness that it simply made me impatient for it all, and so I have to go find it somewhere else. I'm not leaving Baltimore, and I'm not even leaving the industry. In Baltimore we can always hoist some beers, and you can always email me.
I appreciate your posts. You guys are totally awesome. What better PROOF of the power of brand and the power of customer contact than this thread? What better PROOF of the dedication to quality and service?
This company is LUCKY to have you all as fans and owners.
And I'm lucky to know you.
Micah!

Buck up little camper(s) !!!
Our pal is doing something positive for himself, we should be excited for him.
I, for one, believe that Polk will continue to be the company that we all know and love. I'm banking on it.

Micah,
I quess this means I'm off the hook, whew
I'm glad for you and sad for us, you have made this fun and I know Polk will never find anyone to fill your shoes. Thank you for all the good times and help.
You're welcome at my humble abode anytime.

I, for one, think that F1, John and Doro should still plan on dragging him to Charleston in a couple months....
I figure the least we can do for everything is get him drunk and laid in an orderly, proficient manner as our way of saying thanks..
BDTI plan for the future. - F1Nut -
I'll do my part in getting him to Charleston. I'll even help with getting him drunk. Now, about that laid issue, don't even look my way. Maybe Sid the Kid will bring his girly pal with him and we can work out an arangement with her. Perhaps we can have her dress up like Natalie Portman in her roll in "Leon: The Professional". Micah can be Leon...and well...you take it from there. We know his fixation with Matilda.
If not, then perhaps a pair of socks would work.
Man, I'm going to hell! Hey, it's all love Micah!
Strong Bad:cool:No excuses! -
Micah - Good luck! I will begin selling my Polk's tomorrow, screw this place Have a great Birthday tomorrow!
Troy made a great comment...Micah really made Polk even better and was our line to something real for a change.
Micah is Club Polks' rockstar....and we are his groupies.
Yea, don't sweat it gang, he's going to another cool place....might have to check that scene out....hmmmm
Rock on Hobbit!CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
