Nope, Toshiba is noted for its awesome audio qualities -- there is an entire thread about it in the 2 channel section. A bunch of people LOVE it

I was 13 once (Sid you were there not to long ago also) I suggest that he gets a Polk HTIB system (DS7200) it has everything he will need it to do for now and it will sound great in the small room he is confined to now. It will also let him grow into this hobby until he figures what is the best sound for him without having to put out a what is turning into a major investment. Then later when he is old enough to get a job or can save more money he can then add and change things to his liking. As for wires all you will need for now is 12ga Monster or Home Depot (I got Monster for .85 a foot). You can also go to Circuit City and audition the RM7200 speakers and see for yourself I had started with that set with a Panny SAHE-200 and was very pleased with the sound, played loud enough (I couldn't stand it for too long) in my 19x25x9 livingroom, so in you much smaller room it will pound and you wont have to put your school clothes on them because of the lack of room you will be experiancing.

    My 2 cents
    Dave

Thanks for your thoughts but I already have my system figured out. Also I would like to be able to change and add components not just be restricted to having 5 identical speakers.

ok now, are chix really that impressed with home theater/stereo gear? ok, maybe for about 10 mins.. then what? After you've spent all that money.. and still don't get the chick in the end?

anyway... system a or b are both good.

I was left with the idea that he is going to go with surround later on. Anyway, I'm sure that Toshiba will do the job. The Denon would most likely beat it in picture quality, that was one of the reasons I picked it. All assuming later on he will use the system for movies as well.

Hmmm, do digital receivers still have analog inputs? What's the whole point then? LOL. How about the DAC's on the receiver, how good are they?

I agree with you, Dave. No offense to the kid, but for a 13 year-old in a small bedroom, 6.1 with LSi's and plans for an SVS seem like tremendous overkill.

    AintJoM0mma,

Seems like it's time for a little friendly advice. This forum is mostly adults and while I realize you are only 13 you might want to try and be a little more adult in your posts. All the caps and four letter words aren't cutting it. You'll have a hard time getting the respect of the other forum members if you keep on posting the way you are. Chill out, the world isn't ending tomorrow.

I would also suggest that you get out and listen to as much of the gear that you're interested in as possible. Everybody hears things differently, so getting others opinions doesn't mean you'll end up with what you want.

ATC, I don't mean to ruin your transaction but I have to say this. Aside from the split opinions whether wire brand makes a difference or not, don't you think the money would be wiser spend on somewhere else? Home Depot wire is good enough and most people would never even hear a difference (if there is any). You'll improve your sound by putting that money on somewhere else (if you insist on spending it), like the receiver. Or buy some CD's with it.

You being 13, I would buy the RTi6's that someone was selling, get a decent entry level receiver with it, possibly 2 channel. With SVS you need to think. Will your parents be happy with it, will your neigbours be happy with it. You can't expect to be able to blast it all day long and I know how you teenagers are... :)

On your room size maybe a HSU STF-2 is enough. CompUSA is selling it for $350 and it is held in high regard by many.

If you want to impress chicks, save as much money as possible and still get a decent sound. Spend the money left over taking the chicks out. Girls like that much more than our guy toys.

I have my setup with fairly expensive wire and I got a roll of 14ga Home Depot wire for a friend. I couldn't hear any difference in the sound with the two. Could of course be that the wire I have is overpriced POS. If I were to do it again, I would go with HD wire, no doubt. I will be wiring my house, once I buy it first, and I'll do that with 12ga HD wire.

Whether wires make a difference or not has been debated so many times that I'm not interested in going there but at this point I would save the money and use it for something more worthy. I just don't think it is wise to spend $100 for wires when you are looking at a $500-600 system.

The girl I'm seeing, she loves the LSi's. When I told I sold my SVS, she wasn't very happy...until I told her I was replacing it with SVS PC Ultra. :D

    Oh man, I agree --

12 AWG HD wire is actually pretty nice stuff. Very nice construction --

Do you by chance use Monster? lol

Yeah alot of the girls that I have showed the Definitives to like them. They don't much like the RTi70. Must be the slender, high gloss look they like. Who knows....

SVS's cylinder subs look friggin NICE, look alot better in person than they don on the net.

Monster was my first speaker wire. I had just moved to USA and went in to shop for my new stereo. Ended up with Yamaha receiver, Infinity RS5 mains and Yamaha surrounds and sub. Everything else was decent except the sub which I never even used really. Of course I overpaid, like I did for the Monster wire, but that was before I became a bargain hunter. :)

I am atm waiting for my real estate agent, I should hear today if my offer got accepted. 2500 sq ft with a 25x13 home theater room, pool and a spa. Guys, keep your fingers crossed for me, I really want this house.

I never used Monster, thank the lord. HD is right on par with Monster for alot less. IMO
