I've been trying to upgrade the 2ch section of my set up. Started by upgrading the XLR's from the CD player to the Processor, then from the processor to the amp for the mains. We're using AQ McKenzie's all the way through. I was using Furez 10g speaker cables that I DIY'd for the mains. @helipilotdoug at Douglas Connection has just been phenomenal with his service and his product in the past, so I contacted Doug again for this upgrade and counselled with him, and we decided to give Furutech FS Alpha 36 12AWG PCOCC Single Crystal Speaker Cable a try. It's another DIY....lets take a look....

Everything is installed. I'll recalibrate the system tomorrow. Thanks again Doug!!

They look nice, are you going to stay bare wire or are you going to terminate with Banana or Spades?

AQ McKenzie's are also really nice.

I haven't gone bare wire since this one crazy week in Vegas. Not the place to go bare wire, let me tell ya.

Hey Geoff, curious, do you treat the ends with Deoxit Gold, either the spray or the G100L oily stuff?

@VR3 - Trey, how about you? I think you're the only other person I know who runs (ran?) bare wire. Do you treat it with anything?

Little combo pack here on Chinazon for $16. 2mL tubes of each

    = TANGENT WARNING =
Seems to me like the Caig Deoxit G5 spray is more of a cleaner with a little gold treatment, but I never really understood how to use it properly. Too hard to control, and the Low, Med, High valve position didn't seem to make a difference.

Anyway, supposedly, you spray, wipe, then spray again and let dry. Just messy, even when shielded with a shop towel, never mind trying to coat the RCA jacks on the back of a piece of gear.
Reading up a bit more on the site now, they do say it's good for cleaning and where overspray is not an issue. Flushing action.
Composed of 75% mineral spirits, 20% propellant, and 5% DeoxIT Gold

I like the G100L better, as recommended by Ivanovski @pitdogg2, after using it during my last major system reorg and consolidation. I had everything all pulled out, while rebuilding the main space setup, and was in back behind the racks after getting everything staged. I did, however, learn that it can and should be used very, very sparingly. After the jacks are clean, which I did using just one of the cleaning wipes in Doug's Cleaning Kits, I fold over the end of a pipe cleaner, and apply a small drop to the loop and run it around the jack a few times. This leaves a very light film.

I've also found the G100L to be helpful with RCAs that might be a little uncomfortably tight. Eases the cable connector on and off without having to worry about ripping off the outer conductor on the female connector. I have a set of silver RCAs like this that I never really got a chance to use because they'd barely go on nevermind come off, so they weren't a good choice for testing out gear.

I am a fan of bare wire but I switched to locking bananas when I decided to invest into some solid cabling in that position... Plus lore kid proof.

I only run tinned copper though when doing bare wire runs
