I was just alerted today concerning George's condition. I do believe in God and that He is a God of miracles. Never met George personally, but I know that he's a great guy and kind soul all the way around. Prayers for peace & comfort for George and his family, in Jesus Name. God bless you, my friend.

I never had the pleasure of meeting or interacting with him, but he must have been a special guy to have so many friends here. RIP George. Had many wonderful visits and phone chats with the old salt. Bought his VTL mono blocks years ago. There are still in the neighborhood. Might run over, warm them up and raise a glass to the cranky but lovable guy. The man loved his music.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
Still, on this side of eternity, it's very sad to read of George Daniels' passing. Condolences to and prayers for peace and comfort for his family and friends from the Hardys.

I knew George from the Polk forum. He purchased a turntable from me, a Rega Planar 2, in 2007. It was listed for local pickup only. George was first to post in the for sale thread. He posted "if you decide to ship" with a smiley face. So we talked and I sourced a Rega turntable box from the local audio store and sent it to him. He also ended up with a Hagerman phono pre I built for Carl. Always enjoyed speaking with him. I have known George for so long now that I can't even recall when and where I met him. It could have been at my first Polkfest, it could have been at one of the first Carverfests, it could have been at Jerry's house or even (for those that remember another fallen member) Ben's house.
He was instantly likeable and just the happiest guy you would ever want to meet. A good friend of mine summed it up well when he mentioned that G had fun with audio, no matter what he was playing with or listening too. Now that isn't a “word for word” quote but this was mentioned to me in a private message.....and it summed G up pretty well.
This is the type of guy G is, well.....was. Back when the housing market crashed, I was in a bad place financially. My wife got laid off, I had to close down my business and we had a little one on the way. It was at this time that my preamp at the time decided to go the way of the wind.
In a casual discussion with George one night on the phone just shootin’ the ****, we were (as always) discussing tubes, music and audio and I had mentioned that I was without sound for a stint due to not having a viable pre-amplifier in the rig....and that due to finances, I wouldn't have one for (at the time) the foreseeable future.
He mentioned that he had a pre-amplifier that he would send up my way to use until I could afford one and that if I liked that one, I could just buy it from him whenever my finances allowed me to. I asked him if it was any good and he told me that it was a Dodd MLP. At the time, I had already gone through some pre’s and a Dodd ELP was one of the ones I went through. I do remember liking the little ELP and to this day, I don’t even know what happened to it….probably sold it and forgot that I did just that. (Been through a lot of gear up until that point in my audio journey).
Anyhoo, back on topic. I didn’t at the time, recognize what a Dodd MLP was, so I asked him to describe it….
But please allow me to digress and offer a little bit of back history -
When I attended my first Polkfest, I met many forum members and Ted had a handful of systems set up in his home in various rooms. While all of them were special in their own way, I took a particular liking to a system we all cobbled together in Ted’s living room.
If memory serves me well, it was my Jolida CDP, Trey’s Tyler Acoustic 7U’s, I forget what amplifier, a smorgasbord of power cables and IC’s (the MIT SC’s fried Trey’s speakers for some reason but that’s another story), then there was this pre. I called it the “Fred Flintstone” preamplifier.
That system, to me, was right up my alley for the sound I was looking for. I remember telling the guys there that one day, I would own that pre and the speakers. Why? Well, that system, for some reason simply spoke to these ears in such a way, that I knew that this was the way I wanted to go. When Jennifer (A Polk employee/representative) walked up to me upstairs and asked me what I was looking for in a rig, I asked her to meet me in the living room later on, smiled, gave her a wink and walked out of the room. Well, later on that evening, she met up with me while the fellas were playing song after song on that living room rig. She walked in at the right time. The moment could NOT have been more perfect.
BB King’s “Live at the Cook County Jail” CD was playing and the soundstage was so “present” and palpable that you didn’t even need to close your eyes to “see” BB King walk across the stage, as he was singing. When she walked in, I asked her if she remembered when she asked me what I was looking for in a system. She said, “Yes”.
So, I gently grabbed her arm and shimmied her over to behind the sweet spot chair and said, “THIS!. This is what I am looking for!!! Can you ‘see’ BB King walk across the stage? This is what I want. I want the instruments to be where they are and I want to see what’s going on and where in a system.”
Back to the pre and the conversation between George and I. As he was describing this Dodd MLP to me, I still did not recognize what pre he was talking about but he just knew I had seen it before. Whether it be at Ben’s, Carverfest or Polkfest….but his description escaped me…..right up until the point to where he mentioned that it had a wood faceplate. I asked him if it was the “Fred Flinstone” preamplifier I heard in the living room at Ted’s and he said, “yes, it was”.
I was floored. Here I am, broke as can be. No way to pay him back for the foreseeable future and he’s sittin’ on this great pre, willing to give it to me until my finances improved and I either bought another one or wanted to buy the Dodd MLP from him.
I always knew I would own that preamplifier, but I never knew I would own that particular preamplifier! There is a rather funny back story on how Ted finally got it from Gary Dodd (convinced him to build one like it….it is truly a one of one ever built) with a remote, and given the history of this preamplifier on the Polk forum / knowing all of the owners who had it before, it was an honor just to be in the running to acquire such a pre, let alone just be loaned to me for an unspecified amount of time, no questions asked.
This was George. After knowing him for many, many more years after this? This was just George. He was just that kinda guy.
If you have noticed, every time I mentioned that Dodd? He chimes in and teases me about selling it back to him. He has done this for YEARS. When I saw him in person, he’d tease me in person too.
Over the years, I have met up with George and Janice at their most AWESOME digs in Hotlanta, friends and forum member’s houses and many times at Carverfest, where he and Janice would get a cabin by themselves and set up a couple of systems for everyone’s enjoyment. It didn’t matter what he brought, it didn’t matter what anyone else brought….George would enthusiastically jump up and say, “Let’s try it!” when a suggestion was made. He was SO much fun to be around, hang around, talk to and this loss hit me pretty hard.
George was truly a one of a kind person and he will be sorely missed as time marches on.
- G, I’ll meet up with you again and we can resume the good times when my time is finally up. We had a fun ride and some great times, brother. Man, you will be so dearly missed.
May you rest in peace until I can see you again, my friend. Save a beer or twelve for me, will ya’?
Tom

The last time I talked to George on the telephone, he talked a lot about how much he loved the Dodd MLP. We discussed selling him my Dodd ELP but I ultimately decided to keep it. He really like the Dodds, and they certainly are giant killers. I always enjoyed talking to George, he was so helpful and his advice was always spot-on. That’s a great picture, Tom. I never met him in person but I almost feel like I have.

Tom and I visited George many moons ago. Just hanging around for a while listening to some music. I brought out a Ditty Bops CD and gave it a spin.
There's one song on there that starts out with faint wind chimes before the music starts. It was so eerily real we all stopped dead in our tracks for a few moments.
I think I "left" that disc there.....

Hey, all. It is with a very heavy heart that I bring you some bad news. I just now found out that Janice Daniels has passed away. She passed on July, 21st.
If you had the pleasure of ever meeting her, you simply loved her. She was such a wonderful person and I feel blessed that I was able to be in her presence on many an occasion. I'll have to whip up some of her famous Wedding Soup in her honor.
