One song. Listen to this one song. Thank me later.

"Ascent" (song 1) from Don Dorsey off of the Telarc album "Time Warp", performed by one of my favorites. Erich Kunzel and the Cincinatti Pops Orchestra.

'Nuff said.

If you have not had an introduction into what High Fidelity does? This will open your eyes beyond what you thought possible. Those with a true full range system? Words will NOT be able to describe.

Enjoy. That's it for now.

    Okay Tom,
I ordered the CD from Amazon.

I always like the "experimental" CDs.

Went by half price books today and no luck.
Here's a tip, if the date on the price sticker is 6 months or older, they will mark it down to $2.

Yeah man! If one does not have a full range set of speakers it would help to have a sub for this one. AND TURN UP THE VOLUME A LITTLE! Awesome demo track.

I have a hand full of Telarc & demo discs. I have the ASCENT cut on an Audison demo disk.

Here's another great recording that will test the limits of a system:

IGOR STRAVINSKY- DAVID ZINMAN/ BALTIMORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - THE FIREBIRD
Track/movement 1.4 - Infernal Dance Of King Kastchei

The track starts off real soft so one might turn it up a little to hear things. Then the first BIG orchestra hit will shock you! Then again! and again! The system needs good low level linearity, clarity and detail to make out the soft passages. Then it needs to be dynamic, full range / subwoofers with reserve current to cleanly play the big hits and not blow an amp, tweeter, or woofer. I've used this for years as a test tune, demo track. The experience gets down right scary in a worthy sound quality car audio system up in the reference level territory. The same for a powerful and capable home system.

I've listened to Infernal Dance from other orchestras and the piece was still pretty dynamic. I will think the same for that Telarc disc.

Should be here by the 3rd. Thanks.

Time Warp does have some great tracks and Ascent is very good. I was a closet listener back in the late 80's when I wasn't listening to Rush, Yes, Pink Floyd, Styx, Kansas, Zepplin, etc.

Dang, now I'm going to have to dig it out for a listen.

Damn, now I got to go digging for that CD.....

When Telarc got bought out years ago, they were blowing out there sampler and odd CD’s for a couple bucks each....I got this one but I bet I haven’t seen it in 10 years

  • Found it on Apple Music. I don’t know what TELARC is but you’ve sparked my curiosity. I’ll give it a listen this afternoon.

Telarc is one of those companies that specialize in high fidelity recordings. Much like Blue Coast records, Red Rose Recordings, DCM, Chesky, FIM, Sheffield Lab or Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. There are probably more but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Sadly, it is not streamed, from what I can tell, so we are handcuffed a bit. The 30 second sample I found does sound exceptional.

Sorry to those who can't stream it. I am a physical media kinda guy. Anyhoo, I got in this album today and am currently enjoying it. It's not quite as dynamic (by only a slight margin...it'll still blow up some speakers if the volume is set too high). It's a fun album to listen too. FWIW. Thanks for the suggestion.

My fear is....and it very well *may* be unfounded....is that one is NOT getting the same dynamics and sheer "experience" that one would if they had physical media.

This song reminds me of the Dorsey "Ascent" song.

It's got crazy synthesizer sounds and big basslines that test the full range of your system.
