Looks like that was done to flatten the tweeter response curve. The Peerless dome tweeter was set at an angle as frequency response graphs showed that the 45 degree off axis response curves were the flattest and smoothest. Those tweeters can be a bit "sizzly" directly on axis, which you can hear if you stand in front of the speaker.

I'm familiar with, but have not personally owned Design Acoustic's D-12 dodecahedron and the D-6. Their D-2, D-3 and D-4a models are fairly rare. I had to look up the size on these D-2's; $150.00 MSRP, 34" high, 12.25" square, 35 lbs. The tweeter is 30 degrees to vertical. The rocker switch next to the tweeter reduces the tweeter output by 3db for overly bright rooms. 10" woofer. The reviews were good.

That is pretty cheap msrp for floor standing speakers.
Polk 5jr bookshelf speakers are more.

That's very odd and interesting. I'd like to do a search for reviews and will. The Peerless data sheet doesn't show off axis response to be flatter however:

So the old Monitor stands had about a 6 deg tilt. I believe this was done for for time alignment. If they were ear level, that tilt might tame them a little. However, since they were well below the ear the tilt would tend to aim them up at the ear and be more on-axis. ... just thinking out loud.Stan

It explains the tweeter angle better. Horizontal dispersion; everywhere in the horizontal plane, is more uniform when tweeter is tilted up by 60deg.George / NJ

Those specs were taken while mounted on a vertical surface. Could be totally different different horizontally.

Forgive me for the edit. I thought it was clearer this way.
Not that expensive for sure but I think the price was $150 per speaker. I paid $175 ea. for my 7B's.
