I had a friend who's 70 just get one in the spring. Reg. surgery.

He said rehab was fine. Slow to start but walking slow was his plan for each day for a month. A little longer walk every couple of days he told me.

Then step training. He said that went well too. SLOW and STEADY he told me. Up and down...SLOWLY.

Then getting in and out of his truck training. Then driving his truck. I think it took 8 months till he could drive with confidence.

Slow but methodical he told me.

He never took the pain pills the Doc. gave him.

He's a tough old guy though! Up at dawn, go to bed early. Eats healthy.

Being slim and trim helped him a lot I'm sure. ;)

I hope your surgery goes well.

Knock on wood, but, other than my heart, the old body at 71 seems to be holding up. I am taking 4 pills a day for the heart, and that seems to be working. Isn’t science grand. :)

    That's real encouraging, Marvin lol

I haven't heard of anyone with the specifics to that hip replacement, but with any of the joint replacements or surgeries, I've heard that following the physical therapy regiment to a T is key. I've also heard people tout the benefits of a quality CBD oil. No experience with either, but the stories were from knee, hip and shoulder procedures.

If it wasn’t for science we’d be screwed. I had both of my hips don at Emory, I’d do it over again in a heart beat.!!!

I have not had anything replaced yet. Did have something removed though.

Either way bud, if you need anything, let me know and I'd be happy to help out a local Polkie.

If you need me to go catch some fish? That might be a problem as I apparently suck at fishing. But ill try.

Of the 3 most common joint surgeries shoulder is the worst followed by knee and then hip. At least that's what my wife was told in knee replacement therapy. For knee and hip it pays to be as fit as possible. Less weight on those joints the better.

Completely agree with the shoulder/rotator cuff. I had it and thank god for the nerve block and opioids. Getting dressed by yourself is a VERY painful experience. That pain while getting dressed or undressed will bring tears to your eyes and take your breath away.

To be completely clear mine was bicep-rotator cuff and rear shoulder muscles reattached. It was a major 5hr surgery. I do not ever want another.

Glad you are up and moving. My mother i. Law has had both knees replaced. I was amazed to see her walking the first day.

The days of long bed rest are gone.

My wife had hip replacement surgery just five weeks ago. Doc said she was in the top of her class and took her off the walker last Friday and gave her the green light with no restrictions. She did all of the PT, exercises and followed all of the recovery rules.
I am amazed how soon she is back on her feet.

    Hang in there!
