Was this at the small, almost square room at Nebraska furniture mart? I feel like those two are always on display in there with the Anthem electronics. Can't find a sales guy there that knows anything about them, but they've probably been in there for 2+ years now.I would take the Rosso Fiorentino Volterras over them every day and twice on Sunday.
Similar MSRP but different design methodologies and it really shows in the attention to sound detail.
Willie,
Yeah man... sucks that given the size of our metroplex, if you don't want a Wilson or Rockport, you're stuck with subpar demo rooms. The guy I met there was actually very knowledgeable.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -
So what exactly is a “highly boutique” brand? One with limited distribution and/or name recognition? I understand Joey wants some decent resale value at the end of several years of use, but I say buy what moves you and take your lumps (or not) when you sell.
I agree, I wouldn't worry about resale value unless I bought it to sell it. I buy audio equipment for sound quality only.
Nah, knowing me, I keep moving up. I see this as a journey, rather than a destination. Given limited aka finite resources, I can't just buy without planning ahead.
I am patient and buy units that I can move up from... I'll know when I retire from the audio game (then I'll buy something I don't care to move from), but I hope to have another 3 decades of hearing left (provided I don't croak for some reason). Buying something that is used, say like the Persona 9H I had just posted above gives me leverage for future purchases. If I buy only for sound, that's a temporary ideal... at some point, I'll want to try something that perhaps is closer to my absolute sound (because what I might find sonically good right now, I might not after a few years).
In the end, I would hope I have accumulate the equity to buy something like this in a room twice my size (I have already run the idea of building a guesthouse in the backyard, that would work as my stereo room (but be a guesthouse for resale purposes), with my wife). If my current projections are correct, I should be able to do something similar to this in maybe less than 10 years... provided I am lucky.

I found these, got in contact with Johnny and seeing what we can do.
Ideally I would like to hear them in my own space.
He would take my units and my JL Audio 113v2 x2 in for a trade and give me the Personas for $2500.
He would send his guys from Houston to my place to pick up my units and he would deliver the Personas.
I haven't been able to iron out the details yet because I had to work, but maaaybe if I was able to figure out a deposit (non refundable), maybe $1-2,000, I could have him deliver it in the morning say 10am, and then give me 3 hours with them, and I would have his guys come back either take the Personas back to Houston with my deposit, or apply the deposit to the purchase and take my speakers and sub.
That's really the only way I could say buying something of this caliber would be acceptable to me.
Paradigm Persona 9H
I think the color combo, black with black woofers look awesome. Maybe a red cabinet would be nicer... or baby blue. I would've also liked a black baffle, all murdered out would be pretty cool.

I may have to ask him what the trade in delta is without the subs. Good point too.

Yep. The 9H’s are nice. I gave them a good listen a while ago. But after adding subs to my setup I’m not sure I will ever be without them. No matter what speakers are added or taken away. Have you been to the new Hi end Theater and Audio (Vu Phan's place) in Carrollton yet? He's putting a lot of work into his new listening spaces, including having room size and wall materials selected by audio pros. He seems to be building what he wants vs working with what's available. He also has Rockport and Magico.

I find them cool
I just find that they look like too much cheap plastic on the front, and too much like a giant square box. I’d have to see them in person (and obviously hear them) before I’d pass final judgment.
If I was going for a statement speaker right now, I’d trend toward Sonos Faber Aida or something from the Focal Utopia line. I’d have to see and hear those too before passing final judgement.
It takes large rooms to integrate any sort of large speaker with even a modicum of elegance IMO, not to mention performance considerations. A beautiful speaker is not an eyesore. It’s a sculpture. I don’t think the Tannoys fit that descriptor. 🤔Alea jacta est! -
