Consensus on Full Sized Pickup Trucks

I am considering purchasing a new pickup up truck. Extended cab 5.5' bed. I don't necessarily need towing capacity and would prefer a naturally aspirated V8. I don't "need" 4wd but would probably get a better deal on 1 hear in FL since they don't sell that many but have heard that from a few friends. I am only considering Chevy/GMC, Ford or Toyota. I don't care about fuel economy but it must run reg. gas. Budget is $50-$60K. What is your vote...

I Voted for the ford simply on the grounds that I love my expedition and haven’t had any issues. I also loved my sequoia which is built on a tundra chassis, but it does seem like tundras have more issues than sequoias. I wouldn’t touch a Chevy/GMC with a ten foot pole...

The only thing I dislike about my Ford, is oil changes. Have the 5.0 liter with towing package and it takes 8 qts of synthetic.

Admit it, you declined because Dodge Ram wasn't a choice.... :D

In all seriousness, I have to wonder why GMC/Chevy are grouped as one choice; if that got the most votes, which one would you go with?
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I choose tundra.....admittedly I am a Toyota fanboy. Resale value and reliability are important to me. The f150 and Silverado are nice trucks but they don’t nearly hold their value like Toyota does. That said, the tundra IS dated in many ways and will not have the bells and whistles.

Since most GMC model lines are built on the same assembly lines as Chevrolet pickups and SUVs, the differences between the vehicles are limited. Today, much of uniqueness is found primarily in cosmetic packages: options and trim levels. The trim and materials used for internal design give customers pause trying to decide which vehicle to buy. Typically, a GMC truck's base level is about the same as a Chevy midlevel trim. A stock top-level GMC typically has more luxury amenities than the top-trim Chevy truck.

    Chevy is the best value.
Ford is ugly and more expensive.
Toyota is coming out with an all new tundra next year. The current one is just very old technology. But my ‘18 4Runner is old tech and I love it.

I will buy American, even if the resale value suffers a bit as Americans could use the money after what we have just been through. That and the fact that I have had my Chevy truck driving for almost 350,000 miles and she still looks and runs great.

It is part of a sovereignty agreement. Japanese auto plants are considered to be as sovereign as an embassy. I know that was the case for Subaru, and am assuming the same for the rest of them.

Yeah... let me see if I can get into the confidential documentation that would be a status agreement negotiated by several levels of government and private corporations. They do pay taxes on a bunch of stuff along the way, but the big money goes home.

I have a 2020 tundra as a daily driver - 40 miles each way. Tow a 25 foot travel trailer for family camping trips and a Utility trailer on weekends. I have the crewmax which is absolutely huge inside. The 5.5 foot bed seems small but I have never been in a bind to fit something. It’s comfortable, reliable, holds value better then competitors and looks pretty mean too.......has a 5.7 liter v8 (although rumor is they’re going to a twin turbo v6 shortly). The infotainment system SUCKS but is easily remedied with aftermarket. Oh.....and as mentioned it is built in the US. This is NOT to say that the other trucks don’t have their positives as well.

But we are exclusively a Toyota family because of reliability and value. My 2014 4runner was totaled by a guy running a red light- hit me going 50+ mph. Truck was 5 years old almost to the day with 102000 trouble free miles. Insurance gave me over 80% of original purchase price. Good luck getting that with other brands.

And as for balls - it’s got plenty.......

I would personally go Chevy/GMC. I’ve always liked the way the Silverado drives. Tundra would be a close second.
If I was going to do the F150, I’d go with a Raptor. But that doesn’t meet the engine requirements from the OP.

The F-150 Limited has the option for the H.O. Raptor engine, (450HP/510 ft.lb) rest can get the regular 3.5.
