This scares me far more than Wuhan virus...

I think you are incorrect. You should know as a military man that Pearl Harbor after the Japanese attack was one instance. I think there were numerous other examples, during the Civil War, the San Francisco earthquake, the Mormon violence in Naboo, Ill., the Chicago fire. Governors of each state can declare it as well as the President on a national basis IIRC.

I should have said Hawaii after the Japanese attack.

First, though my comment was admittedly tongue-in-cheek, there are several options in our current technological state to conduct an election - mail in ballots and on line voting specifically.

Second, the idea of laptops for every student to conduct “remote learning” was an idea (horribly misguided) floated by the Speaker Of The House.

Discussion of this “crisis” should not be limited to the Wuhan virus itself, because the real crisis is in fact not the virus - it’s the media whipping the masses into a veritable frenzy, to the point that we can’t even buy toilet paper.

Crazy times. Due to low mortgage interest rates, refinance appraisal assignments are at a high again. I turned down 15 home appraisals in the past week. I just saw this form some appraisers are using. I have a very elderly parent I care for daily.

I wonder when, and how far, home prices will drop? Maybe suburban homes with big lots will appreciate in value as people try to avoid crowds.

That’s an interesting thought. If the housing market is to take a beating, I would think it would be secondary, after people find themselves without income for an extended period. Hopefully we don’t see too much of that, but the future is certainly murky at best.

Sounds like a good time to live on 40 acres in rural MT or WY....

I am so glad my home is paid for, although I feel like I rent it from the county.

Same here. So far, and this includes hospital time, I have been able to live on $2500/month Social Security.

You cannot stop a virus with low interest rates and a travel ban. You need ICU beds, respirators, testing, and social distancing.

Well, I'd like to agree with you Bosco (Beatrice was already taken) but then we'd both be wrong.

"you can not stop a virus with a travel ban..." then "you need social distancing".

    'Nuff said there.

    "You need ICU beds...".
They don't stop the virus. Period. They reduce the risk of the infected person spreading the disease further. Period.
But that's it. No stopping, merely slowing.

Long story short: Big difference between slowing a virus spread and stopping it.

BTW: low interest rates won't stop the virus. That statement falls into the "No Sheet Sheerluck" category.
So why was that done ? If you can't figure that out, then....

Pence "we are going to speed testing in the weeks ahead" did I hear that correctly?
