Another question. Do you prefer tubes or SS with what else you have in your rig?

A bit of a stretch outside the budget, but if you can swing it, there is some end-game stuff over on the 'gon right now..

As Nooshinjohn pointed out the esoterics are awesome if you can fit one in the budget. The Marantz SA-14s1 is what I settled for. It’s a great player for the money. But not sure I have turned it on in the last 3 months. well once you get up there into the high performance 32-bit D / A converter from ESS you're now splitting hairs in my opinion. -

Dang..that thing would cause me to start buying cds again😂 already got a new pile starting as there are those rare and hard to get albums I just have to have. The OP could swing this one. Stop looking and grab it!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Thank you all for your replies to date...….not looking for SACD player just redbook here
-
May as well get a good player that also plays SACD. Find a Sony XA5400ES, the last, and best, CDP Sony made. I have had one for a few years, but I rarely use it anymore. I just RIP a new CD, and then listen to it.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes
Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables
Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
Three 20 amp circuits. -
Well in that case, Accessories 4 less has the S2100 for $1500. which is the cheapest
I've seen it. It would be on my list.
If you like the NAD house sound (crisper detailed) I'd look at the
NAD C 546BEE $500.00?
Marantz has it's fans and the SA8005 would be a slightly warmer smoother
Presentation ala the Yamaha
If you like that somewhat forward presentation the Brits seem too...
there is the Rega Apollo. I had an older version for a bit. I can't remember
what made me move it along. Maybe the top loading...Speakers: Polk Lsim, ATC SCM19 v2, NHT SuperzeroSpeaker Cables: DH Labs, Transparent, Wireworld, Canare, Monster: Beer budget, Bose ears -

Why does Skip's name have to get thrown in there, can't you just tell him? -
If you like that very forward presentation <snip> there is the Rega Apollo.
NotaSuv, you never did answer the question of whether or not you preferred tubes or SS with your CDP. Do you have a preference or are you open?
One other comment. The Yamaha "Natural Sound" isn't so natural after all. It's very colored and veiled with almost no micro/macro-dynamics.

You brought up Skip and the Cambridge, if you have info on the Cambridge then offer it, otherwise leave Skip out of it. -
Oh jesus, calm the f down and let people be people. Who gives a **** if he mention skip. Ya"ll acting like it's a bad word now.
Premadonas.
Get over it.
Back to CD Player please. -
What, are you his keeper?
The OP has been around a while and I'm trying to give him
a lead. What are you trying to do?

Experience. I have easily been through 40 or more CDP's in my day. There are many out there that don't mind that sonic signature but it isn't for me. These comments are simply my observations from what I have experienced.
