It's strange. I never had many thoughts about France, nor much interest in visiting the place for that matter, but this music's having an effect on me. I'm convinced that life occurs in slow motion in France on only sunny days with cute friendly women everywhere, and that these soundtracks play out loud over the warm scenes and landscapes in realtime. Seems like a neat place to visit.

Have you seen the movie Amelie?

Are we just tossing out any bands from other areas? Because one of my all time favorites is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard from Australia. They would primarily fall under psyc rock, but every album has a different theme. They venture from jazz, to acoustic, to prog rock, to thrash and doom metal... and lots of things in between. What more impressive to me is they manage to maintain a fairly identifiable and distinct sound from album to album. Their recordings get progressively better each year, but most of their catalog would not be considered audiophile by any means.

But if you're looking for a band with a lot of variety and a really unique sound, they have a fairly large catalog to explore. Fair warning, they do tend to be fairly polarizing, people seem to instant love them, or simply not care for them at all.

    Yes, great little film.
There's another one I like with Audrey Tautou in it called Priceless. Also has Gad Elmaleh. Pretty funny. Subtitled.

Yé Yé is fairly limited... especially if you want non-English European. One that hasn't been mentioned is Claude François (died accidentally by electrocution at 39. He's not something I listen to, but he had several big hits, and I've heard him on the radio a few times. I think this one qualifies as Yé Yé!

You may not recognize the words of this song by Claude François, but 99.99% of English speakers will recognize one of the most iconic tunes of all time, which was written by him when he was 28 (he died accidentally by electrocution at 39).

    P.S.

The lyrics for My Boy were translated from the original French version.
The lyrics for My Way were not (only the music was used).

    👍

Un Autre Monde is from 1984 (the group disbanded in 1986). It's worth listening to with better quality at higher volumes (available on Spotify and Apple Music).

Here’s another that was playing at the local Starbucks a few years ago. It’s a remake of Heart of Glass by Blondie (Debbie Harry) from the 70’s. It’s not a video, so the image is static.

    Group: Nouvelle Vague
    Album: Bande à Part
    Year: 2006
