Love that tea, are you a fan?

Occasionally have a cup; many of them are a little too much for me.
This is a noteworthy one (from Taiwan, actually, as opposed to the mainland), FWIW:

Prayers for anyone in this area!
This looks worse than most of the fires that normally occur, hope everyone is safe!! -
So, there is a tea called Russian Caravan that has about 1/3 LS along with Assam and Oolong. It brings a little of the smoky flavor but is a very good tasting daily tea. Try it Doc, I think you will like it.

I stopped short of mentioning those!
I am very familiar with the Russian Caravan style teas; those are in fairly regular rotation here.
Usually from https://www.uptontea.com/ although I like Harney's as well https://www.harney.com/.
To quote the latter on the husky nature of the 'caravan' teas: One hump or two?

Lol! Barney’s is good but too pricey for what it is. Davidson Teas on Am**n is a great bargain and just as quality.
Very cool you like that one. Great story behind that tea too. -

No problem. The wind is supposed to pick up today, and turn the fires back into firestorms. It had calmed down for a day.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Yeah, the forecast calls for winds of 50mph with gusts up to 80mph, how do you fight that?

With fire -
I haven't read but maybe a few posts on this thread. Don't really plan on exerting more effort than that. It's their own damned fault. They keep voting for representatives (said with extreme sarcasm) that seem to care more about illegal activity and lawlessness in that state than infrastructure.
Case in point - These fires have been going on since the Santa Anna winds have been going on, which I think we all can agree has been more than a couple of hundred years, if not since well before recorded history in the Americas. So, if they knew fires would be a threat every year.....why in the heck did they build an overhead structure that can spark fires?
Had they built the infrastructure underground to begin with or retrofit existing to underground (Where there is no wind BTW), electricity would not ever be an issue during what I call "Fire season".
Now they are having to throw away food at astonishing rates and spark up generators (which cause fires) and use this thing they are all against....Gas.
They caused it, they deal with it. I feel bad for them but they are whining and complaining about a natural phenomenon that hasn't changed since Lord knows when. Put the blame where the blame goes. Those "representatives" who have authorized to build and maintain an inadequate and unsafe infrastructure in an area with a very well known problem are where fingers need to be directed at.
Isn't California boasting about a HUGE surplus of money flowing into the state? Well.....

Looks like a nasty night is ahead.....this is a time for prayers and not who is to blame/at fault or why....
-
This week will be bad, very bad.
it's a cooler Santa Ana coming in. people in the back country will try to keep warm. If they turn off the electric then they will go to the fire place for heat. oops. When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Stay safe out there people.
Feels funny saying that because even as an outsider, our first reaction is for all to be safe. Wish the state felt the same way.
I read somewhere that California spends over 100 billion on "non-essential" programs, what can be more "essential" than public safety ? I always thought that was the number one job of any governing body.
Easy to pick on California, but truth is, just about every state, and the country as a whole, spends way too much on non-essential programs while letting public safety slide. Maybe it's time to simply get back to basics.....for everyone.
Nature is a powerful force, you can't fight it, just live in it's world. If your in an earthquake zone, we build buildings to stronger specs. If we live near active volcanoes, we have early warning systems to tell us possibilities are high when things might go boom. Same with flood zones, hurricanes, winter storms.
Fires though, we got nothing, except the prediction of high winds. Every other natural disaster you have a window of time to prepare, fires not so much. Our technology buys us time to prepare for such things, but fires is another animal. That's why I would think anyway, the importance of doing everything you could to avoid them in the first place, should be taken.....if one wants to live in such areas anyway, right ? I mean, common sense dictates that.
Maybe it's time to demand public safety as a top priority again....just sayin'.HT SYSTEM-

I fully expect* the Governor of California to draft and pass legislation ordering the setback of trees from powerlines, and that setback made even deeper in known high wind areas. Also the burying of power lines where feasible. It would be far less expensive to contract this work out per district, then the money spent on fire fighting and recovery efforts/re-building. Home owners would be responsible for trees on their property, and if they don't comply, they will be sent the bill from contractors who would correct the set-back. This is called "sound, critical thinking skills" a gene that Newsom is obviously lacking.
*Of course that's just my silly, conservative thinking. I'll bet a years pay, Newsom does nothing but ask for a ton of federal tax-payer dollars. If I were President, federal funds would be withheld until COMMON SENSE legislation was made law, that would actually help in driving down the severity of these fire events.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Source: Rotel CD14MkII CD Player - Speakers: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

You make the wind inconsequential to the downing of powerlines. Of course it's always a challenge with high winds, but that doesn't mean you act helpless, and DO NOTHING. Right now, there's been nothing done, even with the centuries long knowledge of Santa Anna winds. If money had been spent decades ago taking these power lines underground where feasible, the threat would be greatly reduced; but no, we have illegals we need to "buy."

I think change will be demanded after this.
The solar industry has been getting a ton of calls here lately from wealthy and powerful people in Cali. Just yesterday I took a few calls from several in the Sonoma area complaining that their solar systems don't work when the grid is down. Also some are highly frustrated and stumped that their Tesla Powerwall battery backup systems can't be charged because both the grid and solar are down. I think many payed for something and did not understand what they payed for. A grid-tie solar system required a hybrid system to operate when the grid goes down. Its a more expensive system.
Anyway, I'm sure more hybrid system will be sold in Cali after this. More importantly, I think this will shake things up and cause some change in Cali. The wealthy and powerful have been outraged by it all. Because California "got here" because of do-nothing politicians. Hasn't there been enough turning a blind eye to it, or shall we burn up some more forest? John I read that helicopters have already dropped 2.1 million gallons of water on the Kincade fire, and that the air tanker has dropped a little over 1 million gallons of flame retardant. Crazy.

Just about every hill and mountain in southern California is a wild fire area. So long as they like to have houses there houses will burn. There should be an ordinance that requires you to build your house underground. Why should everyone else subsidize you living there by paying for utilities to put their stuff underground?

^^ yep, don't forget the hurricane prone areas of the right coast and gulf. May be they should build houses on stilts where it floods....lol.

Yep... New Orleans should be evacuated and moved to higher ground, as it is 20 feet below sea level...

People that want to live in flood zones should be required to build their houses underground too.
