So right now, running the free trial, gonna upgrade for sure! But I gotta tell ya, the Cary really brings out the most of the HIFI setting (AAC) in the big rig!
There is so much to play with! Better digital formats, input sources, external DAC, XLR connections, et., al. Right now I just got it hooked up, via RCA IC's, stock power cord, yeah, yeah, and running the Cambridge Connect app through my rather old iPad!
The functionality is great! Loving Tidal right now!
Man this digital doorway is just popped open a bit more!
Ha..of course this one is in my library. Sounds a lot nicer from a good ripped CD. (All things considered- bit rate & other settings)

MQA (Master) streaming on the Cambridge Audio streamers can only be done via airplay (iOS) or Chromecast (Android) through the Tidal app. It cannot come through the unit directly.

Question for those of you that have the 851N - I looked through some threads but didn't see exactly what I'm looking for - wondering if the DAC in the 851N is better than my integrated. I have the Parasound Halo Integrated. So if I were to add an 851N, would I want to use the DAC in the 851N and run analog to the Parasound (could do XLR or RCA), or would I want to run digital to the Parasound and let the Parasound's DAC do the work?
Right now I am listening to my music via optical out on a Mac Mini to the Parasound. Sounds good, seems like the consensus here is that the 851N would certainly be a better option. So now I'm just wondering about the DAC comparison. Just toying with the idea of getting one of these in the future, at the moment. Thanks in advance! -

I agree with Skip. I really liked the DAC in my B&K Reference 50 until I got the 851. Now the 50's just an analog pre until I can afford to upgrade.Gustard X26 Pro DAC

@audioluvr Cool, thanks for the additional input from first-hand experience. Perhaps an 851N is somewhere in my future. The Halo Integrated's DAC (and everything in general about it) is leaps and bounds above what it replaced. I knew there was still plenty of room to move up from there, but wasn't sure how the 851N specifically compared.

So I finally upgraded to Tidal Masters!
Maiden voyage with Animato on the office rig, through the PC and Marantz HD AMP-1 DAC.
Initial reaction - Big difference! Bigger soundstage, clarity, and extension at both ends. At relatively the same volume, much more details, that could not be heard easily without normally turning the volume up a bit more.

This freaked me out today. I'm playing with the big rig, running Tidal, and no sound out of the right channel speaker! WTF! Switch sources, everything works, so I go to the Cambridge website. Well what do you know?

So today I decided to connect the Cambridge to the NorthStar DAC. I had an AQ Cinnamon digital cable laying around and used that. But, I did order another Silnote Morpheus ref2 cable to match what I have connected to the CD transport!
