Been following a lot of the threads on streamers, @motorhead43026 , @audioluvr , @tophatjohnny and @afterburnt threads most recently, and others. Lots of good comments, endorsements, insights, and banter (of course) as I always enjoy from all of you on CP. So I took the plunge. Getting excited  Another rabbit hole!

Tidal's website only has a link to a 30 day Trial, but I saved this ad from Facebook linking to a 60 day trial. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1037867279730792

I've still just been using Spotify (vinyl is still my main source), but even just using the CXN with Spotify was a massive leap for me. I've loved having the option for streaming, and it's so easy to use. When I have friends over checking out the system we normally use streaming just for the convenience of jumping around and getting more types of music in quickly. I really need to give Tidal a real shot at some point. I was trying to hold out for a 3 month trial, but I should probably stop procrastinating and jump on this 60 day one.

Interesting comments @displayname and thanks for the link! Added bonus for Tidal is that they give a military (active and retired) discount! IIRC!

My advice, go overkill, at least a 4 bay and the biggest drives you can afford.

I believe that's correct about the military discount. It doesn't apply to me, but I do remember being impressed with that. Just something I wasn't expecting to see on a streaming service.

If you don't want to open it for LSAF, I am pretty much around the corner from the hotel. I can swing it by if needed.

I'm sure you'll love it. Best investment I've made to date as upgrades go. I'd have bought one from Skip but one just fell in my lap for half price. Tidal on this is so nice. I spent an entire weekend creating a playlist with varied genre's of music recommended from members here and Tidal basically created a half dozen similar playlists for me of similar crazy mixes for me with new stuff and old stuff. When I've had a long hard day I just press play on my CA app and it will play music all night long with little or not intervention from me. Once in a great while it'll play some crap that I'm like WTF? and I just let it know I don't like it and it doesn't play it or anything like it again.

Congrats brother. You will have fun with it. It is a great sounding player and will come to life once you start plaing files from your NAS (if you are set up with one?) or even a external hard drive that has good quality rips on board it will sound real good. I really enjoyed mine. Looking forwarrd to your thoughts and review. Enjoy!!

From cassettes to Digital Streaming... :o

    You're on FIRE! :D

You're going about the speed of electronic innovation and already own a McIntosh amp. NICE!
By the way, did you give us a review of that McIntosh amp's qualities yet? Did I miss it?

You blew by a lot of us climbing that audio quality ladder like we're standing still but it's all good of course. :) A lot of us would've done the same if we could have.

I can see a power cleaner and or power regeneration unit in your future now. :p

Perhaps a cross-over upgrade on the big boys this year too?

I'm glad you and your wife are still employed so your journey down that rabbit hole is still greased. ;)

    Congrats Dave! B)

I hope to live long enough to dive into STREAMING. But shoot, Streaming might be old tech by then! :# :D
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Awesome Dave!! If you have Tidal and a mobile device with the app on it, you can stream master recordings to it from the mobile.
Also you can foray into hi res digital files like DSD which sound fantastic
    New rabbit hole indeed.

You can always go external hard drive to the 851 via usb, for now. Enjoy, it's nice having your entire library at the push of a button. I have been streaming for about 10 yrs now.

Getting my read on a bit. Looking at the back panel. I'll probably try both outputs. Digital output to the Excelsio DAC and analog output directly to the Cary.
