No bass .... need a sub - and a good one at that , has to be fast enough to keep up with the Maggie’s ....
The Maggie subs are great - but expensive.
I love the 1.7’s , but placement is critical - they MUST be several feet out into the room , 3-5 feet away from back wall.....

My Golden Ear Triton Ones are amazing sounding towers to me. Read up on all the Triton models' reviews online and you'll see they seem to please with each model they make.

I just put smiles on 3 people's faces in the past two days showing them how they sound. Clear and powerful is a perfect description. My neighbor tonight asked if there was 2 12's on the sides of each tower. :)

I got mine for 1200 but it was an estate liquidation sale held by the daughter of the man who owned them. She had a friend look them up and he priced them at 2500. to start.

That's not what I'm looking for if accurate - don't really want a sub and I don't have enough space to have them 3' off the back wall!

I've heard powered Mirages and LOVED them! The guy who owns those bought them new years ago and has brought them to a few homes he's lived in and will listen to them till he...

I know you said front port but...maybe there's a chance...

I saw these and looked at some reviews and these sound like a bargain too. 500. maybe they will take less... :)

Love my 3A’s. A close friend after listening to mine bought a pair of 3A Signatures. His pair is more recent model and cost him $2K. Sold his $5k speakers which I hated the sound. He bought his from a dealer who helped him with room setup and placement. Says he’s hearing things from that he never heard before from his Jazz albums. He’s loving his hi-fi again.

Be aware Maggies have a very narrow and small sweet spot. I've heard a couple of stellar pairs and always thought maybe I'd pull the trigger. But every time I realize the sweet spot is just too small.

The odyssey speakers I heard at Klaus’s sounded pretty darned sweet to me. Good looking, too. Haven’t been shopping speakers so don’t have much to compare to except my 705’s. Great thread btw.

I've read Vandersteens lack bass for most people. Some reviewers say the bass IS there. I always thought I could turn a bass dial up to compensate if needed.

    I'm a bass head in a way.
I like pushing the contour buttons on receivers. It just sounds better to me that way most times since I like classic rock and Motown and also electronic music genres. The contour button might've fixed a lack of bass if I thought they were weak in that dept. Easy fix.!

I almost bought a pr. of the old Vandersteen1As I think but the woofers and upper bass speakers needed re-foaming I think, and I didn't know how easy it is to do that then. So I passed and they were like 150.00 too. :p There was a pr. of 1Cs for sale near by but he couldn't play anything to demo and I didn't want to bring a receiver and wires and hook them up since he wouldn't budge from the 500.00 asking price. I didn't have 500 to play with back then either. Heck, I don't know about 500 being easy for me to play with now. :s

Demo The Focal Arias is you can. The 926 is super sweet.

Also try to demo Neat anywhere. Amazing imaging, and incredible bass with their isobaric design.

I went from 705’s to Aria 926 several years ago, and for a similarly priced speaker (MSRP) the Arias absolutely embarrass the polks in every way.

I just looked at a couple of reviews and they seem like a winner if your amp is neutral to warm. I see an NAD as your power. I too have NAD on my main system. That brand might be a good match for those Focals. Maybe Trey had an NAD hooked up to his Focals.

The 1's i do not like. Stay away. 2ce and up is what to look for on vandies. There is a big difference between the 2ce and 3A.

The VR3's are very nice at that price point.

If you can get your ears in those Alon’s they may amaze you. I have some Dahlquist DQ-30i floorstanders and they have amazing imaging and soundstage. Check out the Alon pedigree and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
