Agreed and unfortunately it's not always something we think about when we're young, but the older you get and the more friends and family you see gone the more you think about it.

Man so sad. We use to watch 90210 each week when it was a new show. My wife loved that show. We where just dating at that time.
I also feel less invincible at 48. i try to take care of myself, not eat crap food, not drink to much and work out at least 3 to 5 times a week.
Man we are all getting older but at 52 that is just way to young.

Not very. Most I see are old nursing home patients.

Either he was unlucky or drugs involved.

He was in one my favorite movies of all time... The Fifth Element

I had the same thought when I heard the news. Very sad. The last time I was in the hospital, and every subsequent doctor visit thereafter, seems to be focused on making people hyper aware of the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea. I even had a sleep study done but I already knew I didn’t suffer from sleep apnea (it was more about the myoclonic jerks in my legs at night). Get yourselves in for a sleep study gentlemen. You do not want to have a stroke if it can be prevented. RIP Luke.

A sleep study can determine if you suffer from sleep apnea. You stop breathing when you sleep, depriving the brain of oxygen. If you have sleep apnea, they will get you on a C PAP machine that will keep you breathing regularly throughout the night.

That’s Restess Leg Syndrome. That’s why I did the sleep study but I don’t have that. I have the myoclonic jerks which are more difficult to subdue.

OK that I knew. I thought maybe there was more to it for the stroke aspect.

It can, but it's not addressing the issue of whats causing it to begin with. Some sort of chemical, emotional, physical stress I'd imagine. Lack of exercise, watching TV or computer screens before bed can also contribute. Sugary snacks late at night is also a no-no. The same things that may be causing your sleep apnea, are also putting you at risk for stroke.

Sleep is a natural state, does any other animal species require a machine to sleep ? Find the problem and fix it would seem more applicable than buying a machine to help you sleep.

Luke seemed liked an OK guy, a regular guy, shame he was taken so young. RIP Mr. Perry, and condolences to his family.

No Tony, they don't. When something doesn't work, other animals just die or get eaten, and their genes are less likely to be passed down. Is that what you are recommending for humans? :p

Sleep apnea has various forms, some of the causes are simply physiological and have nothing to do with any of the things you list.

The point is, stop treating the symptom and look for the problem. Something todays medical community seems to overlook.

Many times, we are too lazy to deal with the solutions to problems, or unwilling to make changes to our bad habits so we instead take pills, wear machines to sleep, etc. Which in the long run, contribute more to the problem you were trying to cure in the first place.

Do some research on sleep, and causes of sleep apnea. While many forms exist, so do the many causes, which are correctable, without machines.

I have had a bit of this myself, stopped breathing in the middle of the night. Was told to get the machine also. Know what cured it for me ?

Better blood flow was number 1. More exercise, going to bed at the same time, roughly, every night. Not trying to sleep with the TV on. Not eating crap late at night.

There is a process involved to reset the brain for deep sleep, which also resets the brain to deal with certain types of sleep apnea.

Will your doctor tell you those things ? Not likely, but here's this machine you can wear every night to help. People will no doubt choose the easy route, but the underlying problem is still there.
