HRT Headstreamer

I currently use an HRT Headstreamer as I like the sound through USB and my computer, but the only output is for headphones. It doesn't have enough juice to drive many headphones, so I plugged it's out into my headphone amp in and it sounded good. I know that headphone out and line in are different requirements, but has anyone else tried this? I assume I won't fry anything do to the low output voltage of the headphone out? Thanks!

Just because the output is a 3.5mm jack I don't think that necessarily means it's only for headphones.

HRT description says “Compact, Powerful, 24/96 Capable, and Designed to Drive Headphones”.

I decided to pirate my NuForce WDC200 wireless DAC from my stereo rig to try with my headphone amp. It doesn’t have USB which I would have preferred, but it does lossless high bit rate audio over wifi. Maybe I can actually put my headphone amp in my living room and stream to it wirelessly...

I like the HRT stuff. The MSHD is one of my favorite DACs.

I just had a look on their site, looking for specs on the 1/8 output, but didn't see anything. You can email them with questions, though.

If your wireless DAC works as well as a Squeezebox Touch over wifi, it should make for a pleasing listening experience. In fact, you've just given me an idea!

Exactly! This replaced my Touch and I felt like a genius when I realized I could listen with it anyway I had a plug!

Kevin says "Yes, that is perfectly acceptable. The HeadStreamer has only a headphone output whereas the microStreamer has both. The difference is that there is a headphone amplifier and an attenuator in the headphone path whereas a line output lacks those additional stages."
