Yep. The generic outlet doesn’t have enough retention to withstand the weight of the cable. Another rabbit hole!

Continuing to seal the cabinets on my 3.1 project. These things were completely open to the outside through he top and bottoms! Glue leaked straight through and dripped out onto the carpet. No wonder the push test failed before I tore them down.

Brought home some 3/8" MDF to make new side panels, my son wants all black side panels minus the oak trim so need to rip these to size this week.

Tuned the 1.0 and 1.25 inductors and soldered into place. Decided to dump the Jantzen 0.3mH 20awg due to the measured DCR when I finished tuning it. At 0.36 ohms is was way off from the stock version's 0.581 ohms. Placed an order with HiFi Collective for the proper 0.3mH/22awg versions and ate the FedEx shipping.

Placed a Mouser order for new internal connectors. Going with gold plated terminals on this rebuild so will need to swap out the 28 year-old originals.

Listened to Nina Simone all evening....

RobbyKY, You're a busy guy! When I rehabbed my 3.1TL's the exterior was pretty much shot. I removed the top/bottom caps (which was a challenge) and soon realized the caps were a part of the cabinet. Polk certainly took a short cut here.

I made new caps and attached them to the cabinet in the same manor as the larger SDA's, via Lag Bolts. I made a new "permanent" top and bottom for the cabinets first, and secured them into the cabinet walls.

I plained down the side trim pieces to match the thickness of the cloth side panels, this elevated the "overlap" of the top/bottom caps, which I never cared for.

I of course performed all the normal mods as well, the 3.1TL's are a fine example of the SDA Series. Your son will be thrilled!

I did consider that for sure but maybe I'm just getting lazy in my old age. In all honesty, both sets of the 3.1's I've acquired have been in really good cosmetic shape so didn't feel the need to go down that path. Polk seems to be a little inconsistent in manufacturing as the first 3.1 rebuild had the side trim pieces glued on and the crossovers both had the oddball 18mH inductor with the associated resistor whereas this set has the "normal" dimensional inductor and the side trim is attached with screws. When I opened them up for the first time I found 5 of these screws in the bottom of the cabinet so there were five little vents adding to the lack of sealing.

The polyfiber had also slipped down on one of them.

    8f3oj9c3i2y2.jpg

On a big plus note, it appears the previous owner had already upgraded the tweeters. Any idea how I can confirm these are 198's vs an incorrect 194 short of measuring frequency response curves? I've only handled the 198's with my previous builds and even upgraded our 2b's with the 4.1tl mod so I've never physically seen a 194. All the original tweeters I've pulled have had labels attached while there's never been anything on the back of a 198.

Swapped Lsi9's in for 705's & kitten proofed the area. Also removed the SVS SB12NSD that was used for two channel listening. The 9's while not bad, are a definite downgrade. Yeah, it looks terrible & those boards aren't helping the sound any. It's temporary until they get out of the "climbing in/on everything phase".

Can I purchase an XLR to USB adapter and connect it to my computer?

sooo many words and pictures since the post quoted above! :) Did anyone answer your questions, @halo? Most such mics run on phantom power, DC riding on the XLR mic cable (usually on the order of 15 volts or so, but depends on the mic). Most mic preamps would have the option of phantom power; some of the standalone analyzers/EQs do (the ancient Behringers here being an example, if not a very s-e-xy one) :)

... oh, and my apologies if you got the answer (and/or if I'm wrong!) and I just missed it!

    Hello Mark,

No sir, no one answered my question so thank you for the reply! I was wondering if an XLR to USB cable would provide enough juice and I think it should do the trick.

Half the reason I didn’t get the 8 as I didn’t want to have to get the Apheta to do it justice. I got the 6 which is still a very highly regarded table. Along with the Ania/Fono MC
