FWIW, one sort-of interesting boombox did pass through our hallowed halls, briefly.
Not a high-end one by any means, but interesting enough that I couldn't pass it up when I espied it on the swap pile at the ol' Harvard town dump one Saturday.

I think it even worked -- at least somewhat. I actually don't remember what I did with it - but it's not here anymore.

Thats a magnavox. They were like 100$ new.

Nice!!! For its time and being portable, they were decent. Heavy also!

I had a Magnavox boombox, it was super cheap, had a working cassette deck and radio and CD player. It was newer than the ones above, Grey and somewhat oval shaped, I guess. It was in pretty good condition too. But, it was trash. The tweeters were dead, so there was nothing above like 5 Kilohertz. I actually think that the tweeters were fake, and the woofers were just sorry excuses for full range drivers, but I don’t know if that is true or not. I’ll see if I can find a picture on the interwebz.

The whole movie was a well played out comedy and the seriousness of our planet being destroyed all in one. I liked it a lot.

Thankfully my past systems never included a boom box. I’ve always has some sort of mid-fi system of separates. For the longest time I’ve had my Dad’s Sansui setup, AU-6900, tape deck and turntable and Marantz speakers. The speakers and tape deck are long gone but the amp and TT lives on.

Over the years I added and replaced what I’ve added but I wouldn’t would call it an upgrade, more of an investment in different sounding systems. In the office where it is now, I’m still drawn to listening to Apple Music or Tidal or an occasional record, while working. I’ve done a full restoration and the sound is still very much solid state Sansui.

TY, I’m amazed at how good they sound for the price. Slightly better than Elac B6 I had before. LS50W would be a dream, but concern is the bookshelf placement with the rear firing port, it’s the reason why I gave away the B6.

FWIW, The B6.2 has a front firing port:

The ls50w has a setting for that. Close wall. Desk. I would not worry about it.
