  • Sorry to hear that, he was always a good entertainer. He played a pretty good Texas Ranger in the original "True Grit" film. Anybody else remember the "Glen Campbell Hour" ?

It's been long hard battle with Alzheimer's for him. I'm sure his family is saddened, but also relieved that he can finally find some peace.

RIP. A very talented man. I always liked his music, even though I am not really into country music.

I got to see his daughter Ashley perform last year and she obviously inherited her dad's talent. I would have loved to have seen him perform live.

RIP. Didn't know he did so many cuts as a session man. 586 in 1963 is nuts. Like Jimmy Page he was on everything for awhile. Real deal there.

    OK, Andy Rooney time :)

I, too, am very sorry to hear of his passing, and of course the gruesomeness of AD is so sad to observe, even from a distance -- but I got so tired yesterday of hearing Rhinestone Cowboy over and over to illustrate his career.

It would be like a story on Jerry Garcia's passing (22 years ago today, by the way) over a soundbite of "Touch of Grey" :/ A perfectly OK song, but so un-illustrative of what made Garcia -- well -- Garcia.

So, back to Glen Campbell :) I was gratified to hear some of his "better" catalog on an appreciation on NPR this morning: "Galveston", "Gentle on my Mind" (very much of its time, but a great song by the late and much lamented John Hartford), and - especially - Jimmy Webb's wonderful "Wichita Lineman" -- I figure that one's probably lightman1's soundtrack when he's on the job, don't you? :)

And, first and foremost, Glen Campbell was a h-e-double hockeysticks of a guitarist.
His sound is all over hit songs of the 1960s -- even if the documentation is, at best, scanty.

Agree about his guitar skills.. There are some vids with meh audio on the Youtubes with him playing his guitar. I especially like the one's with Roy Clark who is another under rated bad azz guitar player.

    RIP Glen Campbell

Yes sir Roy is also the real deal if it had strings Roy could burn them up. I liked to watch him and Chet Adkins on Hee Haw as a kid ......

Lets be clear I was FORCED to watch Hee Haw as a kid not that I wanted to. But I now appreciate that I did.

Knowing Jimmy Webb living just down the street as I grew up, with my Dad as his band teacher, this one hits me pretty hard. They were a great team together, some of the best music in the last half of the '60s. I know that Jimmy kept in close touch with him. I last saw JW a few years back when he was in OK.

The "I'll Be Me" documentary depicting Glen's struggle in the last couple years of his life is worth a view if you get the chance. It shows the disease in a real life as it progresses.

The "I'll Be Me" is a must see even if you're a casual Glen Campbell fan.

One of the top guitarist in any genre.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETkzK9pXMio

He was revered and commanded respect outside of country music.
    Glen with STP.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vydbso6izU

Eddie Van Halen once wanted a guitar lesson from Glenn.
