Congrats on the AVR, and convincing the wife to allow you to buy it.

Most bass issues are caused by the room itself or bad positioning. If you have the sub jammed in a corner, for instance, you add a lot of room gain. Sometimes moving a sub by 6 inches or so solves a lot of issues.

I'd do a sub crawl, and start over if I were you.

Agree. Also look at threads on the AVS forum for setting up Audyssey and the Sub Distance Tweak. Setting up the sub for great integration takes some time.

I've always bought the lower end receivers thinking they were "awesome" but boy or boy, little did I know what I was missing once I started using the Marantz.

That same jump in quality you just had can be had again with a real 2 channel preamp and dedicated amplifier.

    Enjoy.

Thank you so much everyone! Very excited! I'll definitely start bass adjustments and positions this weekend.

Hey guys, need your opinion here. On my old receivers, never had to choose "large/small" or "full range" speakers before. I have two questions:

    1. The S55s as my fronts, the Marantz is setting yhem to large speakers, with crossover as full range. I have a Velodyne DPS-10 sub. I would set the S55s as small, correct?

    2. What would I set the crossover to for the fronts, 80hz?

Just looking to tweak the bass a little. Thanks a bunch guys!

Try both and stick with what sounds best to you. Small and 80hz would afford you some dynamics but you might like how large sounds better.

Think a 40 Hz cutoff may be a little low. Freq specs aren't listed, but two 6.5 inch drivers, I would think lower limits would be somewhere around 35 Hz or so. Probably wouldn't try anything below about 50 Hz myself.

    Blending for 2-channel with sub
Really depends on room size/location and speaker capabilities and roll off

Even subs have variable performances in mid/low frequency. When integrating a sub never assume anything...IMHO there is no rule
    2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures
Desktop rig: LSi7, Polk 110sub, Dayens Ampino amp, W4S DAC/pre, Sonos, JRiver
Gear on standby: Melody 101 tube pre, Unison Research Simply Italy Integrated
Gone to new homes: (Matt Polk's)Threshold Stasis SA12e monoblocks, Pass XA30.5 amp, Usher MD2 speakers, Dynaudio C4 platinum speakers, Modwright LS100 (voltz), Simaudio 780D DAC
